For Tiger Woods, one of the “proudest moments” this season likely came when Sam Woods’s soccer career “ended.” In February, Sam Woods played a key role in leading the Benjamin High School varsity girls’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lake Christian, securing their spot in the Florida Class 2A state championship game. Talking about her soccer season, Mr. T said, “To be able to end her high school career like that and to go on as a state champion is pretty cool.” However, despite taking a different path than her father and younger brother, Charlie Woods, Sam Woods has added another feather to her cap, thanks to her being a dual-sport athlete.
As the daughter of Tiger Woods, everyone expected Sam Woods to take up golf. However, the young star has instead focused on two other sports: soccer and track and field. Her journey in track and field began in 2024, when she improved her results by finishing third in the 4×400 relay at the state championships (3:59.95) and achieving a personal best with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.84). Her strong connection to track and field will continue this season, according to this latest update.
Currently in its regional meets season, the high school track and field regular season is in its last leg of competition. According to an update from the Benjamin School Athletics, the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams won two more District Championships with the conclusion of the regional meets. Now, the teams, along with Sam Woods, will head to the state championships (May 9-10) held at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.

And it is likely that Sam Woods will perform amazingly during the State Championships, given her amazing records this season. In her track and field record, Sam Woods had the following results: she finished 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.12 seconds, 2nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.91, 2nd in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:01.60, and 1st in the 4×800 relay with a time of 10:28.29.
However, her soccer career has been amazing as well. In 55 games, she has scored 8 goals and made 12 assists. In the current 2024-2025 season, she has already contributed 1 goal and 1 assist in just 8 games. Perhaps it’s because of this that she lifted her dad’s spirits during a major grieving period.
Sam Woods’s career-ending game brought joy to Tiger Woods amidst a tragedy
During her final game at the end of Benjamin’s soccer season, Sam Woods brought joy to her father amid the recent tragedy the family was facing. On February 4 of this year, Tiger Woods felt heartbroken by the passing of his mother, Kultida, who was known as his “biggest fan.” This loss was especially emotional for him. However, his daughter Sam’s impressive achievements on the soccer field during the match between Benjamin High School and Lakeland Christian brought a bright spot during this difficult time.
Sam Woods played a key role in helping her school win the state title. As the captain of the defense, she showed her skills and leadership during a 2-1 victory over Lakeland Christian at Spec Martin Stadium. The game ended excitingly when Sienna Barboni scored the winning goal to secure the title.
Tiger Woods often cheered loudly from the sidelines. The photos captured him smiling with pride and happiness, which was a big change from the sadness he had been feeling. Watching Sam’s hard work and success gave him a much-needed break, allowing him to enjoy some happy moments during his grief. It perfectly aligns with a 2018 Tiger Woods interview, wherein the G.O.A.T. said, “I get such a big kick out of watching them [his children] compete and play. It’s so much fun to see how happy and passionate they are about soccer.” And looking at the pictures from the Spec Martin Stadium, that seems to be the truth.
