Roman Anthony‘s MLB journey is off to a blazing start—but boy, it’s already a rollercoaster! After a forgettable debut at Fenway on Monday, where he went 0-for-4, many might’ve been tempted to write him off as ‘just another prospect.’ But hold that thought. Because on Tuesday, Anthony marched right back in and said, “Not so fast!” And let’s just say—he delivered. On his very first at-bat, the 1-2 changeup from Ryan Pepiot came flying in… and boom! Anthony slapped it for a clutch hit that brought in two scoring runs. Fenway came alive. The dugout went wild. Twitter exploded. And suddenly, everyone wanted to know—Who is this kid?!
But just when it seemed like Anthony was catching fire, a plot twist! Despite his standout performance, there’s now buzz about a potential demotion. Yep, you heard that right. Even the thought of such news could drive anyone crazy, and surprisingly, this is the prediction that some of the MLB analysts are making. The latest to dive in? None other than Rob Bradford, who is known for his unapologetic takes and his podcast, Baseball isn’t boring. This time, Bradford appeared on the Jones and Keefe show and deliberated on a wide range of issues about the MLB World. However, what caught attention was his surprising take on Anthony!
Speaking on the show, Bradford remarked, “The bigger question, guys, nobody’s talking about is all this Roman Anthony hype, you know, with the family and the sister and everything else and the player. Well, it can all come to a screeching halt here in a couple of days.” Justifying his stance, Bradford claimed that once Wilyer Abreau, the Red Sox outfielder who is currently struggling with an oblique strain, returns to the team, Anthony would be sidelined and the glam will just vanish.
“They’ve landed at that same spot where they were before. This was the same spot where I said, ‘Hey, Red Sox, I’ll give you the solution. Moves it on Rafael to the infield and Kristian Campbell to minor leagues. And you have Roman Anthony. That’s my solution.’ But they dug in on not doing that. And when Abreu comes back, they’ll probably have the same exact situation. There’s no easy answer to this,” Bradford exclaimed. Well, his remarks cannot be nullified given the kind of roster shakeups Boston has done recently.

Be it Rafael Devers’ position change from third base to designated hitter, or a change in Kristian Campbell’s batting order, the franchise has been trying to do everything to come out of the slump and ensure a rebuild. Once Abreu and Bregman return, the focus will be on playing them more, which could result in the demotion of certain youngsters for the time being. And unfortunately, Anthony could be one of those rising stars. But wait, if you think this is the only negative prediction that has hit Anthony in the recent past, you are wrong!
Roman Anthony’s Rookie of the Year dream hit with harsh prediction
Roman Anthony’s notable outing had the support of his family, who watched him create memories and milestones from the stands. And while the family has been celebrating the latest success, many MLB enthusiasts are already vouching for him to become the Rookie of the Year. But for MLB Insider Robert Murray, the chances are less.
“At this point, we have to call it like it is: It’s very unlikely that Anthony wins AL Rookie of the Year, considering 1. How well Wilson has played and 2. That Anthony was called up two months into the season,” Murray wrote on FanSided. And notably, Jacob Wilson has continued to prove that the backing he has received is not worthless.
The Athletics’ shortstop is batting .366 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs in 64 games this season. Although he has been temporarily sidelined with a hamstring injury, he is poised to return on Friday. And guess what? The world will await his magic! Coming back to Anthony, the road ahead is not easy. But he has shown true dedication, and hence, it will be interesting to see if he can prove the predictions wrong to secure a long-term place for himself in the team!
