Robbed of His First UFC Belt, Ex-Champ Comes Clean Days After Taking Down Hit-and-Run Suspect

Henry Cejudo might be able to feel every word of when T.S Eliot wrote about April being the cruelest month. This year’s April has become a stormy time inTriple C’slife where he experienced one chaotic event after the other. Firstly, he found himself in the middle of a loss against Song Yadong, which had a brutal eye poke and left him with double vision. Although it happened in February, the effect is still there in April. Second, the former double champ and Olympian came into the middle of a terrifying DUI case where some drunk teenagers crashed their car in front of his backyard.

Just a few days later, his first UFC championship belt was stolen! Yes, the real one, and not any replicas. He narrated all of these chaotic events to Kamaru Usman in the latest Pound 4 Pound episode as Usman decided to give him a reality check.

Cejudo said, “Somebody breaks into my studio, steals my camera, and steals my belt, dude.” And Usman replied a little scathingly, “Sometimes, there’s a thing called oversharing, right? Yes. Oversharing to a sense where Henry, you let people know where you live.” However, ‘Triple C’ agreed to the former UFC Welterweight Champion with dejection.

The flyweight belt that got stolen was not just a trophy of his victory; it was the symbol of the blood, sweat, and tears that went into his training and triumph over one of the greatest fighters of all time, Demetrious Johnson. But now the original belt is stolen. A burglar broke into his home and took the prized championship belt just days after the Olympian took down a suspected drunk driver.

Cejudo’s producer, Dylan Rush, shared more details about the robbery. He said, “When I saw someone near the door, I assumed it was Henry, but I didn’t tell him I was sleeping there. I didn’t want to startle him in case he didn’t see me so I did not say anything then when I woke up at 9:00 AM Henry walked into the studio he said ‘Oh Dylan where’s my belt?’  and I said, ‘Henry did you come in here at 4:45 AM last night?’ he said no. And that’s when it all clicked, and I said Henry, someone came in here and stole your belt.”

His wife and children were asleep at the Phoenix home when the studio was broken into. “If I had my gun, it wouldn’t be nice, it wouldn’t. Because now I know you’re messing with my family,” the cage fighter told reporters at FOX 10 Phoenix. However, as per his close buddy, Hughie Johnston, the UFC star would not press any charges as long as the belt was returned to him. But he was dejected about what had happened and hoped that the UFC boss could give him another belt, which would not be a replica.

‘Triple C’ said, “ I talked to Ali and I talked to you know to see if he could talk to Dana to see if the UFC  is willing to give me a, I don’t want a replica. You know the replicas are different I won’t my actual belt man.” Usman chimed in, saying that a replica was the only solution right now. In the end, Cejudo genuinely seemed puzzled and questioned about the life lesson the universe was trying to give him. Nevertheless, this unfortunate incident did leave a wound, as was visible from his expression. What about the drunk driving case that he had to face before? Let’s take a look.

Henry Cejudo bravely tackled a drunk driver

While conversing with his producer outside his home, Cejudo witnessed a frightening moment when a car with some inebriated teenagers came rushing down the street at reportedly 80 to 100 mph before violently crashing into his backyard. Thankfully, it was not during the daytime, otherwise, the impact would have been dangerous for the residents of the area and the teenagers inside the car.

The Olympian’s fighter instincts kicked in, and he restrained one of the individuals before authorities arrived— all while wearing golden-peach silk pajamas. As per the NY Post, the former Olympic gold medalist said he was working from home when he heard something similar to an explosion. “Boom! I knew he had hit something or somebody,” he recalled to Fox 10 Phoenix. “I felt like it was right next to us, and it was probably about four or five houses down to the point where I was able to see the car, see it just run through the neighborhood like you wouldn’t believe.”

The 38-year-old immediately sprang into action and detained the alleged drunk driver, 22-year-old Angel Cota. Luckily, Cejudo and his family were unharmed in these incidents, but really, what do you think the universe is trying to tell him? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
