It must be crazy playing for an NBA team. For an up-and-coming player, a lot of your heroes still take center stage- and the dream to play with them runs deep. For Warriors center Quinten Post, perseverance was quite literally the way towards that dream. A persisting hip problem had him quit the sport momentarily in his childhood. On top of that, the Warriors traded him to the Blazers as part of a much bigger trade. He then came back to the Bay Area, signing a two-way. All those uncertainties, and what did that lead to?
Stepping onto the Chase’s paint side-by-side his heroes Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
He all but admitted pinching himself, hoping that his playing career wasn’t a fever dream. “It’s crazy that I’m playing with the best shooter that has ever played. Sometimes I do pinch myself when you realize his greatness and the schemes that teams throw at him. It’s ridiculous what he has to deal with on a nightly basis,” said QP in an interview with the Boston Globe, the awe clear in his words.
But the pressure of the majors has fit his hand like a glove. “I’m also happy that I had real vets, real guys that have been around the league, Steph, Draymond, [Kevon] Looney. As a rookie, you can just fall in line and follow in their footsteps. It was definitely nerve-wracking at first, going into an organization like the Warriors. It was definitely an adjustment, and it took me some time to adjust to the level of play, but it’s been awesome.”
The media might talk about the Warriors’ resurgence with the addition of Jimmy Butler in the 5. But Quinten Post’s introduction in the lineup has been just as impactful. He probably had the game of his career so far, with 18 points in 22 minutes and a career-high 6 treys against the Raptors. The clinical marksmanship proved vital in the absence of ‘The Chef’!

It was a big bet he took leaving the Boston College pre-maturely. His time there shaped his playing style. But the ‘unwavering belief‘ he’s had in himself since day 1 prompted him to declare himself for the 2024 NBA draft. Even after being picked up by the Dub Nation on an initial two-way contract, he never thought his chance to prove himself in the 5 would come in double quick time. But you know who saw his potential early on? Draymond Green.
Quinten Post initially neglected by owner Joe Lacob
Warriors owner Joe Lacob is usually a hands-on and supportive boss. His public perception is better than most. And the billionaire is known for spotting talent from early on. But after Draymond Green‘s chat with Joe about Quinten’s class and quality, he’d dubbed Dray ‘crazy’.
“In training camp, I told Joe Lacob, ‘Joe, I’m telling you, this kid can really help us.’,” Green revealed after the Warriors’ 117-114 win over the Raptors. “He shoots the ball extremely well, plays solid position defense, and he ain’t soft at all.” Yet, despite Green’s endorsement, QP started the season in the G League. Lacob wasn’t fully convinced, and Draymond knew it.
I know Joe was looking at me like I was crazy,” the 4x champion admitted. “I told him Post was going to have an impact, and he was still in the G League. But he fought his way up here, and now he’s a key piece in the rotation.”
The crazy part? Draymond wasn’t just hyping up a rookie—he saw something others missed. Proof? Let’s Talk Impact.

Since breaking into the rotation, Post has been a reliable deep threat, drilling threes at a 44% clip. The Warriors’ net rating jumps to +3.4 with him on the floor—compared to just +1.7 without him—a testament to how his shooting and floor spacing has opened up the offense (credit: Statmuse). And if that’s not enough, remember QP’s historical stat? Through his first 31 career games, Post hit 53 threes as opposed to Steph Curry’s 40 in that same span during his rookie year. Not bad for a guy who started the season at Santa Cruz! And Quinten himself?
He had no idea the veteran forward had vouched for him so early. “That’s pretty cool. I didn’t know that,” Post admitted. When he first played alongside Draymond, it was just another pickup run—except the energy in the gym was on another level.
“I didn’t see Dray all summer,” Post said. “Then one day, he came in, and you know, 2-3 was there, so everybody’s kind of on edge, playing hard. We were on the same team, and we were cooking that day. I don’t think we lost a game.”
The Dutch center grinned, realizing that day might have been his first real audition for the veteran forward. “I probably did myself a favor by having a really good day,” he joked. “Maybe that’s why he thought so highly of me.”
Turns out the guy Joe Lacob once overlooked is proving exactly what Green knew all along. You ought to get ‘DrayMagic’ working his charm as their GM after his retirement.
Clearly, Quinten Post rising to the occasion has been an eye-catcher. Box office if there ever was one. He provides Steve Kerr a rotational option—something that’s been the Warriors‘ specialty this season. After this season’s antics, he’s sure to grow into the brilliance Draymond Green knows he possesses.
