“Social media is a part of me, but it isn’t me.” Quincy Wilson once clarified. At just 17, the Chesapeake native is already thriving under the spotlight—and that includes the constant attention that comes with a strong social media presence. With nearly 400,000 followers on Instagram, Quincy has regularly shared his victories, personal milestones, and even business ventures online. But here’s something you might not expect: Quincy actually has someone helping him manage his social media behind the scenes.

After securing his sixth win at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet, Quincy Wilson joined Parker Valby for a relaxed conversation. During their chat, the teenage sensation opened up about how his social media is managed. According to Quincy, his mom, Monique, plays a hands-on role in running his accounts. When Valby asked for more details, Quincy responded with a playful grin.

On The Parker Valby Show, Quincy revealed that his mom takes care of deleting his DMs on social media. The revelation caught Valby off guard—she seemed surprised that Quincy wasn’t managing them himself. But the Olympic hopeful offered a more layered explanation: “Nah, she don’t run it, but like, my mom basically runs it. She doesn’t run it, but she runs it like.” Curious, Valby pressed for more details. Quincy admitted with a laugh, “Like, like, uh, my DMs, honestly, I don’t even know what happened to them.” The same thing applied to message requests—those disappeared too. As for why? Quincy shrugged it off: “I don’t know what happened, but, like, I think my followers increased so fast that it just, like, it just stopped. Like, Instagram probably thought it was broken.” And that wasn’t the end of the story.

Quincy went on to explain, “Like, if someone texted me and I wasn’t following them, I couldn’t get it, but I’m going to have to check into that one day; it may be somebody important.” Despite his mom helping out, the young athlete is still dealing with complications when it comes to social media. And this isn’t the first time Quincy has run into problems because of it.

Quincy Wilson once had to take a serious step to maintain his mental health

Back on February 20, during his appearance on the Beyond The Records podcast, Quincy Wilson didn’t hold back about the mess his social media had become. “For some reason my DMs turned off like I can’t see anything that I don’t know what happened I don’t know what happened that’s that’s a setting problem you fix that hey yo and I haven’t looked at the settings the changes bro it ain’t nothing in there I need to see bro,” he said, cracking a smile as he joked about the whole situation. But behind the humor was something more real.

Social media, with all its noise, opinions, and judgments, can be overwhelming—especially for a 17-year-old phenom in the national spotlight. While fans and critics sound off online, Quincy knows that when it comes to performing on the track, it’s all on him. “You read them you read them you look at them we just can’t look at them that hard because like they’re not doing what you’re doing you got,” he said. “Those are people that you can look like for me I haven’t been on social media since I lost. I don’t know what they’ve been saying I know they’ve probably going on me.” Still, he hasn’t lost sight of what really matters.

“My goal is basically to stay healthy all season. If I stay healthy mentally and physically and put what I want to put down on the track, I think the sky is the limit for me this year,” Quincy shared during the same conversation. Clearly, the online chatter had started to weigh on him. But now, with his mom stepping in to help manage his digital life, the question is—will things be different? Can a mother’s touch turn down the volume on social media and help Quincy stay locked in? Time will tell.
