Trouble is afoot at College Station! Mike Elko is reporting some serious blows to his roster in the 2025 season, with the onset of the spring portal. His campaign was a huge letdown in the 2024 season, especially with a lacklustre offense. And it is that very side which is looking rather empty after a series of players have packed up.
TE Eric Karner is the latest name to join Texas A&M‘s list of players leaving for the portal. Karner was expected to take on a bigger role this year, but he’s taking his skills elsewhere for now. He has a career total of 435 yards and 7 touchdowns from his high school years. But Karner is just one of the many losses showing themselves on the Aggies’ O-line.
Texas A&M tight end Eric Karner has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports/@247Sports.

Elko’s biggest blows are the losses of WRs Micah Hudson and Ernest Campbell. Along with them is Sam Salz, who is entering the portal with one year of eligibility.
Moreover, having Marcel Reed back also doesn’t prove to be very helpful to Elko. Mike Bratton of That SEC Football Podcast said, “Is there a returning starting quarterback in the SEC that I think the overall SEC fans have less confidence in than Marcel Reed?” Cousin Shane replied, “I think Reed is the one.” Though the QB proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle after he was added to the O-line to an already struggling offense, he couldn’t do much.
Reed has a slew of problems to be worked on, which is a priority task for Mike Elko at the moment. However, it doesn’t look like the HC is having an easy spring, after losing 4 players to the portal in such a short window.
