After three years of drought, Paulo Costa finally made waves at UFC 318, dismantling Roman Kopylov with ease. The Brazilian didn’t just win — he made the entire middleweight division take notice as he made Kopylov look amateur. Snapping a two-fight skid, Costa seemed to rediscover his rhythm. With victory on his side, the ‘Borrachinha’ humor returned too, as he cheekily revealed his payout—and some wild investment plans that might be a little too ambitious.
Following his UFC 318 win, Paulo Costa appeared revitalized, calling out his former rival Khamzat Chimaev, and he hasn’t let up since. In addition, he’s now engaged in a back-and-forth with Reinier De Ridder. It’s clear Costa’s confidence is at an all-time high. Taking to his Instagram handle, the Brazilian shared a series of photographs of himself as well as his payout for the UFC 318 clash.
The post revealed that Costa earned a massive $921,000 as his payout for his victory against Roman Kopylov. He later shared photos of himself at a casino, betting his money. The caption read, “I’m gonna buy it all of $Giga and Bitcoin.” Well, knowing Paulo Costa, it’s safe to say he was joking about his actions.
Or maybe not? Paulo Costa has been known for investing his money in crypto for quite some time now. Back in 2024, the Brazilian revealed that he had sold 9 Bitcoins from his portfolio in favor of better investments, stating that he would only buy the decentralized currency again when prices dropped.
Right now, Bitcoin is relatively stable with minimal fluctuations. But knowing Costa, he might consider purchasing again, anticipating that its value could rise in the coming years. In addition to his monetary investment plans, Paulo Costa has made some serious investments in his career as well. How? By beefing up with Khamzat Chimaev ahead of UFC 319.
Paulo Costa calls out Khamzat Chimaev after UFC 318 victory
Paulo Costa turned his fortune around at UFC 318 when he made sure Roman Kopylov didn’t escape his grasp. Costa came back to his senses after back-to-back defeats and returned to his powerful kicking game against Kopylov. Chopping down Kopylov round after round, he came close to finishing him in the second round, but Kopylov survived the barrage. In the end, the judges scored the fight in favor of Costa.
After his victory, Costa didn’t waste a single moment as he called out Khamzat Chimaev, “Everybody knows I hate that guy, everybody knows who, that mother——r [Khamzat] Chimaev [is]. He’s a big a——e. He says bad things about me about [my wife]. He is a coward. I’m going to chase you. I will not stop until I get to you.”
Well, their rivalry is not something new; both of them had an altercation at the UFC PI in September 2022. That saga continued with Costa’s infamous moment with Chimaev’s “Gourmet Chenchen” hat on a podcast appearance with Henry Cejudo and The Schmo. They were supposed to fight at UFC 294 however, Costa had to pull out of the fight due to a staph infection.
Reacting to Costa’s callout, Khamzat Chimaev took to his X handle and wrote, “It was she who wrote to me, habibi.” Well, Costa is still far from clashing with the Chechen, considering the fact that Chimaev is fighting for the title. However, it would be quite interesting to witness their fight. Will Dana White make it happen? Only time will tell.
