The Chiefs and Christmas? At this point, they go together like Santa and cookies. It’s almost a holiday tradition—Patrick Mahomes and Co. lighting up the field while everyone’s still in a food coma. Last year, they even made Netflix history with their Christmas clash against the Steelers. So, if there’s football on December 25th, you already know who’s on the wishlist.
But the big question? Are they going to play on Christmas in 2025? Because let’s be real—for the past few years, the Kansas City team has been continuously turning December 25th into must-watch TV. And the Chiefs’ Kingdom is surely rooting for another Christmas thriller. The kicker? Now that the NFL is expected to announce the schedule for the 2025 season, the Chiefs requested the NFL to make them a fixture on Christmas Day.
UPDATE
The #Chiefs have requested that the NFL make them a fixture on Christmas Day.

Yeah, you read that right. According to a league source, the Chiefs, who have played on Christmas Day in the past couple of seasons, want to make this a regular thing. Just like the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. And why not? In less than a decade, Patrick Mahomes and Co. have become one of the most prominent franchises when it comes to marketing and escalating the NFL’s TV viewership.
Most notably? Well, how can we forget last season’s Christmas Day fixture—Chiefs vs. Steelers? And we aren’t talking about the Chiefs’ 29-10 decisive win. In fact, last season’s Christmas Day fixture generated a record 24.1 million views across Netflix and CBS platforms. Fast forward to this year, and the NFL 2025 season will have three Christmas Day fixtures.
The first two games are set to stream on Netflix. On the other hand, the third game is part of the Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football,” considering Christmas falls on a Thursday this year. That said, the Chiefs are expected to be one of the teams to play on 25th December this year. Once again. To make things more interesting for the Chiefs’ Kingdom, the team’s probably going to play an international game as well.
Patrick Mahomes vs. Justin Herbert in São Paulo, Brazil?
Coming next month, the NFL is expected to announce the seven international games along with the entire schedule. And if we believe the reports, the second game of the season will be played in São Paulo, Brazil—a Friday Night game on September 5. The game will feature Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers as the designated home team. The opponent?
Well, for the time being, the Chiefs are the favorites to clash against the Chargers in this mega showdown. To make it spicier, during the annual league meeting, KC is considered as the No. 1 team to face LA Chargers in this game. To top that off, both the teams aren’t opposed to the idea of this fixture.
“On playing international games, we’re willing to do it whenever the opportunity presents itself,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said Monday. “We don’t have a lot of control over that, except periodically with whatever the rotation (of teams scheduled to play overseas) of the league is at where we can be the home team.” Guess we’re about to see another nail-biting game between these two teams.
I mean, the Chiefs’ dramatic win against the Chargers in the last season is still a fresh memory. Down 17-16 with just over four minutes left, Mahomes did what Mahomes does. The QB led a clutch drive to set up kicker Matthew Wright for a nerve-wracking 31-yard game-winner. The result? The ball kissed the upright before sneaking in, and there you go. The ninth straight AFC West title win with a wild 19-17 comeback. And now?
If all goes well, just hope for another nail-biting showdown between these two teams.
