Arguably, people learn empathy. Take, for instance, Paige Spiranac’s outspoken stance whenever she defends others. Having been in the firing zone herself for almost a decade now, one of the most prominent names in the golf world does not shy away from putting up boundaries. Who is she defending now? It’s Rory McIlroy.
Rory McIlroy’s relationship with his wife, Erica Stoll, gained widespread media attention in 2023 when McIlroy filed for divorce. Their daughter was just a couple of months shy of turning four when, in June, Rory McIlroy withdrew the divorce. Their relationship returned to normal just a month after—and so should have the public’s and media’s attention. But did that happen?
Unfortunately, no. Recently, McIlroy’s relationship with Erica and their divorce became one of the main topics Netflix picked up in its 3rd season of Full Swing. The segment begins with the announcement about McIlroy’s divorce from his wife. “Because this is Rory, this is instantly a national news story,” announces Dylan Dethier, one of the senior writers at Golf.com. “The whole world is talking about Rory’s divorce. And the one person that doesn’t wanna talk about it is Rory.”
Paige joins in the conversation. “Oh, Rory. Gosh, he is just constantly put in the firing zone. Must put such a toll on him. Where is his mind at? And is he ready to play?” Rory’s comments about the situation came in the same breath, and he admitted that there are parts of his life that he’d rather not bring into the public space. It also begged the question, how much should the public know? “Um, unfortunately, in this line of work, that isn’t always possible. I’ve always tried to be protective of my loved ones from people that have ill intentions. I think it was a wake up-call for me to say, “Let’s just focus on the golf for a little bit.”
And he did! Rory McIlroy’s 2024 season came with multiple top-10 finishes. Before May, his notable performances included a 3rd place finish at the Valero Texas Open. Additionally, after May, McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship and had a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open, with additional top-10 finishes at the RBC Canadian Open, Genesis Scottish Open, and Tour Championship.
How about we take a look at his 2025 season?
Rory McIlroy’s personal and professional life in the 2025 season
Rory McIlroy hasn’t talked much about this aspect of his life since it became the major topic in the 2024 season, but he once agreed that juggling the professional and personal aspects of his life hasn’t been easy. “Sometimes,” he said, “I’ve struggled with the balance of trying to be the best golfer, trying to be the best husband or the best dad. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and it can be a little too much for me.” Consequently, that saddened his fans who also follow his personal life. However, we have good news from the man of the hour himself!
In Full Swing, he talked about the current status of his married life. “Thankfully, everything has worked out for the best and we’re happy and moving forward and can’t wait for what lies ahead.” Well, cheers for the Irish star golfer!
That was all about his personal life. Let’s take a quick look at his 2025 season as well. McIlroy started the 2025 PGA Tour season strong, claiming a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM and earning $3,600,000. He also had a top-20 finish at The Genesis Invitational and a top-5 finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour.
Rory McIlroy will be next seen at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, so what predictions do you have for him?
