There’s a reason why soccer is more than just a game, especially for the players. That feeling of a successful breakthrough as a professional, making a debut, or scoring the first goal—boy, does it give us goosebumps just thinking about it, as it is a sentiment that only they can relate to. This is just the on-pitch stuff that we are finding hard to comprehend. So just imagine what it must be like for a player to see themselves featured in Times Square. For NWSL star Barbra Banda, this moment is more than just “exciting.”
Yes, you heard it right, our very Orlando Pride forward who keeps finding solace in scoring golazos. Apparently, the Zambian international is the latest to get featured on one of the United States landmark skyscraper’s billboards. This came through a video shared by NWSL on its official Instagram page. “Hi, I’m Barba Banda and I’m on Times Square,” introduces the forward herself in the beginning.
The 24-year-old visited the Great White Way along with her fellow Pride and Zambian teammates Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya. Interestingly, the trio’s reaction was shared in the clip after seeing a graphic that read, “NWSL is back,” with Banda being featured on it. “It’s my first time being here and seeing this beautiful sight is so exciting,” said the forward.
Further expressing her delight over making the billboards, she added, “Seeing myself here at Times Square is a personal achievement. I’m so excited; so happy to be on the billboard there. My mom and my Zambian people are proud of myself.” The video concluded with Banda, alongside Chanda and Chilufya, shouting, “Zambia ku chalo! Zambia to Times Square! Zambia to the world!”
