Nike Announces Sabrina Ionescu Decision 1 Day Before Seattle Storm Game

4 min read

Women’s sport isn’t the future, it’s right now.”  The New York Liberty athlete Sabrina Ionescu emphasised the growth of the WNBA during the launch of her second signature sneakers. Her sneaker line, in collaboration with Nike, has cooked up a storm in the basketball world. Despite Jrue Holiday, Mikal Bridges, Cade Cunningham, Corey Kispert, and Payton Pritchard rocking the debut shoes, it was Sabrina 2 in the series that made the loudest noise.

Well, according to Sole Retriever, Sabrina 2 became the most worn shoes during the 2024-25 season. After all, the purple and black shoes were inspired by the athlete’s name and background. It was built for running and encompassed a Cushlon 3.0 foam that provided an “energy return and responsiveness.” The 28-gram lighter shoe had more appeal on the hardwood.

So, naturally, fans and fellow players have been waiting for the brand to drop another shoe in the collection. And it seems like the wait is over. The official Kickfinder account took to X (former Twitter) and dropped the first look at the upcoming shoes. The account shared four images of the sneakers with a caption, “OFFICIAL IMAGES: Nike Sabrina 3 ASW. July 18th, 2025. IB2273-700 (MENS). $140 USD. COP OR DROP?

The latest shoes in the Sabrina Ionescu collection feature a gradient blend of Soft Yellow into Orange Trace. The hues naturally transition from a pastel yellow at the toe into a deeper orange towards the heel. They further feature a bold, black swoosh on the outer corners, cementing the brand identity. Moreover, the tongue and the heel have the bold initials S and I etched, respectively.

While the sizes are focused on men’s footwear, the design and overall aesthetic hint at inclusivity. When she signed the multi-year deal with Nike in April 2020, Sabrina had one vision: to “bridge the gap between women’s and men’s sports.” And this is why she focused on gender-neutral shoes with a wider appeal. However, her previous shoes gained immense popularity among the NBA counterparts.

Well, this news comes just a day before the New York Liberty prepares to welcome the Seattle Storm on Sunday. And as the highest-ranked team in the Eastern Conference standings, can the Barclays Center prove lucky for the team? Or will they end up with a sixth loss on their belt? With a shocking 2-game losing streak already, things can go either way for HC Sandy Brondello and the team.

The WNBA announces an exciting update regarding HC Sandy Brondello

The WNBA has been gearing up for the upcoming 2025 All-Star games. A ton of drama has already unfolded surrounding the games, from the discrepancies in the voting system to the fan outrage surrounding the team captains. But in the middle of it all stands the New York Liberty head coach, Sandy Brondello.

“With the 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game head coaches slated to come from the two teams with the best winning percentage through tonight’s games, the All-Star coaching staffs are now set!” The official account took to X and shared a recent development surrounding the names. After Napheesa Collier and Caitlin Clark were announced as the team captains in the All-Star games, it was time to announce the coaches.

Revealing the All-Star coaches with more than 10 days to go before the event begins, the account added, “And with the head coach of the top-ranked team scheduled to guide the All-Star team whose captain earned the most fan votes, here are your 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game head coaches: Team Clark will be coached by Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve. Team Collier will be coached by New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello.”

Needless to say, the two head coaches from the top most ranked teams in the franchise were selected to guide the All-Star games. While Cheryl Reeve had to face the brunt of the fans, Sandy Brondello’s involvement in the exhibition can change things and make the games more exciting. Besides, Collier and the team will be a formidable force as they join hands with Brondello.

Having said that, Sandy Brondello is a strong and resilient head coach who successfully led the New York Liberty to a WNBA Championship title last season. Besides, Brondello’s locker room started this season from right where they left off. But after a recent 2-game losing streak, the Liberty stand with a total of 5 losses on their belt. And as they prepare to face the Storm on Sunday without their center player, Jonquel Jones, can the roster manage a decent victory? That remains to be seen.
