NFL Sends Strong Response to Aaron Glenn For Letting Aaron Rodgers Go as Jets Lose Big

5 min read

Aaron Glenn is as cool as they come. Before the drafts, rumor mills hit a fever pitch, trying to figure out which player would go to which team. But no one could even come close to guessing what Aaron Glenn was planning. During the drafts, the Jets HC was asked about his thoughts on the revelations Aaron Rodgers made on the Pat McAfee show. His response? The former cornerback tackled the question like the pro that he was. “Absolutely. [Armand] Membou is a really good player, and I’m so excited he’s a Jet.” This guy was clearly all, and only, about the Jets. But as they let the four-time MVP go, it now looks like that came with a heavy price.

As per Rodgers, Aaron Glenn had told him, point blank, “We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.” And that was the end of Aaron Rodgers’ future with the New York Jets. Back then, Glenn had doubled down, saying, “I don’t want to be up in front of the room saying something and having guys look back at you.” Maybe he thought, as a new coach, Rodgers would challenge his decisions and the team would side with their senior QB. But Glenn couldn’t have known then that only a few months down the line, he’d come to regret that decision. And what’s more, that regret will come straight from the league itself, not Aaron Rodgers.

As per NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the league has sent a big message to the Jets with the 2025 season schedule. On the ‘Adam Schefter Podcast’, he read between the lines of the scheduled matchups. “The Jets are amazing because last year with Aaron Rodgers, [they had] six prime time games. This year, two prime-time games. So the league is telling us, don’t believe that much in the Jets.” Prime time audiences are the biggest money makers for the NFL. And if the league has cut down Jets’ prime time action this new season, it doesn’t bode too well for Aaron Glenn. Schefter further explained, “Understandably right now, we’ll see how it goes, with the new first-year head coach in Aaron Glenn, new GM, Darren Mougey, and essentially a new remade roster.”

ESPN #NFL Insider @AdamSchefter believes the league sent the #Jets a message with the results of the 2025 schedule:

Translation? You’re the new coach, with a new GM and a new team. Prove that you can bring in the prime time crowd before we can give you the former Jets glory. With Justin Fields under center, the Jets do have some considerable talent on their roster this year. But it looks like they’ll have to bring their A-game right from the start to show the league they mean business. But while we wait for the Jets to rise to the challenge, the 2025 schedule has more top-tier drama lined up. An epic showdown between former teammates.

Justin Fields vs. Aaron Rodgers?

Now look, sources inside the league strongly believe Aaron Rodgers will make the move to Steel City pretty soon. And if that happens, this year’s schedule is promising us some really awesome revenge plays. Right off the bat, the first matchup of the season is the Steelers vs. the Jets. Do we need to break this down? Let’s. When Russell Wilson came to the Steelers in 2024, that was also the season when Justin Fields joined. Fields could only look at the field from his bench while Wilson made the plays. Fields lost faith in the team and joined the Jets as their playmaker this year. And now, he has the chance to show his skills against Mike Tomlin.

As Adam Schefter said, “And now Justin Fields does not have to wait long before he gets a chance to go up against his former team. It could be Justin Fields versus Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields versus his former team, Aaron Rodgers versus his former team.” Yes, it’s not just Justin Fields. If Aaron Rodgers is a sure deal for the Steelers, he will get a chance to go against Aaron Glenn. Both QBs will go up against each other in an epic battle of grit and determination. They have the chance to look the other team in the eye and say, “Look at the big mistake you just made letting me go.” That story will have the makings of the greatest rivalry match in NFL history. QB vs. old team, times two.

Justin Fields is the starting QB for the Jets. He’s out to prove he belongs there. And he will be giving it his all to upstage his former team. The only missing piece from this puzzle now is Aaron Rodgers’ decision. Once that has been made, the league has promised us some prime entertainment outside prime time. As Schefter puts it so well, “The NFL certainly knows how to schedule those games.”
