NFL Legend’s Son Links Up With Bryce Underwood at Michigan as 30 CFB Programs Make Aggressive Push

5 min read

Larry Fitzgerald, a future Hall of Famer, left an unforgettable mark as one of the greatest WRs in NFL history. After spending all 17 seasons with the Cardinals, his name still gives Arizona fans chills. But now, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. His son, a rising star at Brophy College Prep, is turning heads in the recruiting world. Ranked 89th nationally and fourth in Arizona by 247 Sports, he’s already drawn interest from 30 top programs. Even Bill Belichick is paying attention. And now, with Michigan’s Bryce Underwood in the mix, the race is heating up.

On March 23, On3 High School dropped a bombshell on Devin Fitzgerald, the son of the former Cardinal. Well, their post featured a photo of Devin alongside Michigan’s star QB commit, Bryce Underwood, during his visit. It seems like Michigan’s investment in landing Bryce is already paying off. Right now, after a long recruiting battle, he’s quickly becoming a magnet for top talent. While many prospects visiting Ann Arbor this week are making connections with him, Devin Fitzgerald is the latest name added to the mix.

Hope you remember Christian Ward, who is the latest prospect to be impressed by Michigan’s five-star quarterback commit, Underwood. It looks like the young quarterback’s presence alone is turning heads, proving he’s more than just a top talent—he’s a game-changer in recruiting. As Michigan stacks up elite prospects, Underwood’s influence keeps growing. However, don’t assume Devin Fitzgerald has sealed the deal just yet. His recruitment is still wide open, and the battle for his commitment is far from over.

The visits weren’t limited to Ann Arbor. He also connected with Arizona State. After a great talk with ASU’s WRs coach, Hines Ward, Devin Fitzgerald couldn’t hide his excitement. “I’m grateful and excited to announce that I have received an offer from Arizona State University!” shared Devin. Then, during his visit to UNC, he had a legendary moment. Following that, he said, “I had the privilege of speaking with Coach @Belichick_B, one of the greatest to ever do it, and I am thrilled to announce that I have received an offer from the University of North Carolina!” Although these may be unofficial visits, the impact is undeniable, and Fitzgerald’s stock is rising fast.

While Arizona Wildcats and Florida State are currently leading the predictions to land the WRs, Arizona State can also increase its chances. All thanks to Hines Ward. Devin’s father, Larry Fitzgerald, has a history with Ward when the latter joined Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians’ staff in 2013 as a WR coach. He specifically helped Larry move outside to the slot. The result? Larry Fitzgerald had four Pro Bowls and 7,079 receiving yards (44 TDs) in the last eight years of his NFL career. College football recruitment often comes down to connections, and this one is as strong as any other.

But his links with the state where his dad lined up in the pros do not stop with the offers from the Arizona Wildcats and the Arizona State. He also has ties to his dad’s former team. How, you may ask? Well, recently, Devin linked up with Arizona Cardinals’ WR Marvin Harrison Jr., who was picked 4th overall by the team in the 2024 draft. The connection isn’t solely that both play the same position. Even their fathers played the same position. Who could forget HoFer Marvin Harrison Sr. and his connection with Peyton Manning for the Colts.

The junior Harrison even talked about the meeting. “I met him outside Texas Roadhouse my first or second week being out here for our rookie minicamp. We just kind of chopped it up. Kinda the same stories that we share, being sons of great NFL receivers and trying to pave our own path,” said Harrison. Honestly, the next generation is writing its own story.

Then, there’s the Michigan factor with Bryce Underwood. In other news, the junior also got a chance to represent his dad’s former team at the Super Bowl.

Writing his own story, the son of an NFL legend

Over Super Bowl weekend, the Cardinals handpicked junior Devin Fitzgerald to attend Nike’s Next Ones combine in New Orleans. He joined 31 other rising stars and Europe’s NFL Academy selections for a one-day showcase of elite talent. The event wasn’t just about drills—it was a chance to absorb wisdom from some of the greatest players in NFL history. For the younger Fitzgerald, it was more than an invite; it was a glimpse into the future.

One of Brophy Prep’s top playmakers, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2026 per 247Sports, made his mark last season. He led the Broncos to a 10-3 record, falling just one point short in the 6A semifinals against Mountain View. On top of that, with 52 catches for 720 yards, his impact was undeniable. His performance earned him second-team All-Region honors and the attention of top programs. Given that, Cal, Duke, Kansas State, UCLA, and Arizona have all come calling with Division I offers.

Now, let’s see which powerhouse program, including Michigan, can land the standout prospect.
