It started with a handshake and a dream: Jalen Ramsey, the Dolphins‘ prized acquisition, was set to anchor Miami’s defense. But after a meniscus tear sidelined him in training camp, the honeymoon ended before it began. He returned midseason, snagged a few picks, but the chemistry? Off. Whispers of tension with Coach Mike McDaniel grew louder, and by spring, it was clear—this marriage was heading for a split.
It’s been over a month since the HC confirmed that they’re seeking a trade for the veteran cornerback. But the decision is yet to be finalized. Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network recently shed light on the ongoing Ramsey-Dolphins saga. “I checked in with a couple of people on the Jalen Ramsey situation this week, and I was told nothing is imminent,” Wolfe said.
“There have been conversations, draft weekend, and throughout May in regards to Jalen Ramsey; there’s interest. But right now there’s nothing imminent.” See, it’s pretty much certain that both parties are parting ways ahead of the 2025 season. However, the official confirmation is not out yet, and everyone’s just speculating when the trade will happen.
“Relationships are hard.” Jalen Ramsey and Dolphins are in midst of a split that will likely end in a summer trade.

Just to spice things up, Wolfe kind of predicted Ramsey’s trade scenario and believes that Ramsey and the Dolphins are in the midst of a split that will likely end in a summer trade. And it all depends on Miami’s salary cap situation—after all, the guy inked a three–year, $72.30 million contract extension last year. “The Dolphins would take over a $25 million cap hit if they traded him before July 1st. That number drops to under $7 million if they trade him after July 1st,” Wolfe noted. Translation?
The money factors have already entered amidst the trade discussions, and considering the Dolphins are looking to develop their young corners, the team’s probably going to trade Ramsey after July 1st, so that they will not have to incur a cap hit of over $25 million. No hard feelings. Just business. And yes, they’ve got their sight on the team’s future as well.
Last month, the team’s general manager, Chris Grier, announced that the seven-time Pro-Bowler hasn’t asked for a trade. However, the GM believes that parting ways with Jalen Ramsey gives the team the “best chance to help us win not only just this year, but in the future as well.” There you go. Given the relationship between the Dolphins and Ramsey has officially run out, the trade in the coming months is at the table.
Ramsey’s next stop? That’s the mystery.
Will Jalen Ramsey reunite with his Super Bowl-winning team?
Wolfe noted that Miami is reportedly aware of the final destination of Jalen Ramsey as they’re all set to trade the 30-year-old corner. The top contenders are Ramsey’s former team, the Los Angeles Rams, along with the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. But why? Simple: because of the CB’s previous connection with the members of each team’s respective coaching staff. But Sean McVay‘s Rams seem like a top spot for Ramsey.
After spending his first few years in Jacksonville, the Jags traded him to the Rams through a mid-season trade. The guy turned into a beast in LA. We’re talking 242 tackles, two sacks, and a Lombardi in 57 games across a little more than three seasons before he packed his bags and left for Miami. Fast forward to now, and talks have been circling like crazy that the Rams are probably going to trade for their ex-CB.
Just to spice it up, the head coach, Sean McVay, admitted that he’s been in contact with the CB even though they parted ways a couple of years back. “He is a total stud, and you look at, obviously, he has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father… And so those conversations are ongoing,” McVay noted.
Sure, it’s not going to be as straightforward as it sounds, considering there are other teams at the table as well. But in the meantime, until the Dolphins make a move, we can assume that McVay and Co. could jump in to snag their guy.
