NFL Community Turns Against Cowboys’ Projected WR Pick as Blast From Past Resurfaces Right Before Draft

5 min read

When you declare for the NFL draft, you can’t afford to look bad in the attitude department. Stats and on-field temperament are just two of the many things that scouts will look at before making their pick. Once they find something worth striking for, your chances tank. That seems to be the case for Tetairoa McMillan, who could be quite the catch for scouts at the draft.

Arizona’s McMillan is currently listed as the second-best WR in the draft, according to ESPN. At 6’5” and 219 pounds, the Wildcats star means business. In 2024, McMillan made 1,319 receiving yards, covering 92.5 yards per game and 8 TDs. Things were looking smooth sailing for him, with experts picking the Dallas Cowboys as his future home in the pro league. If he did go to the Cowboys, he would’ve made an excellent pairing with CeeDee Lamb. His numbers prove that he’s an excellent vertical weapon currently in the draft. However, Tetairoa McMillan and Dallas will both have to pause as a seemingly chill video of the former started making the rounds. He says things in it that no head coach wants to hear from any player.

According to the video, McMillan doesn’t seem to hold much regard for watching game films. He said that he doesn’t like to watch football “at all.” “I don’t like watching film either…I don’t ever need to watch it by myself because we go over [film] as a receiver group.” Dov Kleiman shared the update on X and also wrote, “Yikes,” accompanying the video. These are not the kind of statements an NFL hopeful of any position should be making at any time in their college career.

Yikes: Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan says he doesn’t watch football and doesn’t like watching game film:

Despite this happening before Tetairoa McMillan goes pro, it doesn’t seem to take us away from the assumption that he was forging his way ahead with this idea in mind. He’s a great prospect. There’s no doubt about it. But that attitude can easily be puncturing his dream of landing the best spots at the draft. The NFL community is also not letting this slide.

The internet is not very hopeful about Tetairoa McMillan’s draft prospects

This video sparked quite some chatter among die-hard lovers of the sport. That’s a pretty natural reaction because no good player refuses to watch past games to improve. Then there’s McMillan, who seemed to have no regard for watching game film. That’s not the way for an NFL hopeful to go, thinks the internet.

One fan thought that there was no need to dig deep. “lmao he’s bombing his stock on purpose. This is simple,” the user wrote on X. There’s no way Tetairoa McMillan thought this was an accidental mistake. This was him willfully staying away from watching game footage, so there’s not much McMillan can do to downplay this.

Another user did not hold back in throwing shade at McMillan’s draft prospects. “Good thing to admit right before teams are deciding whether or not to give you millions of dollars …” That’s a valid argument. Owners like Jerry Jones would not want to buy talent with heaps of money only to find them uncooperating in the locker room. That’s a fair point, absolutely.

McMillan better gets his reality check sometime soon, thought one user. “Yeah, well good luck with that. Trendy, goofy might stick in college, but he’s heading into a BIG business world now. If the team that drafts you wants you to watch film, better get used to it.” The college charm does not last long in the pro league. These are grounds for serious business and way more professional conduct than college football.

Another user seems to be quite sure that McMillan will suffer in the draft because of this video. “Definitely going to fall in the draft after this smh,” he wrote. Yep, this attitude will surely be a red flag for him when the draft begins. And it won’t lead to good results.

Off-the-field demeanor matters a lot, according to one fan. “Wouldn’t draft this guy with a top pick. No matter how good he is the Attitude and mindset is contagious. He can bring more destruction to the locker with that mindset as the best player.” That’s a fact that coaches, analysts, and experts have been preaching for decades. It brings a negative air into the locker room, which is a lose-lose for McMillan and his team.
