Netflix Roast Comedian Confirms How Tom Brady Threw Gisele Bundchen Under the Bus During the Show

Tom Brady has spent his entire career controlling the narrative. On the field, he dictated games with surgical precision. Off it, he curated an image of relentless excellence—whether as a quarterback, businessman, or family man. But on one wild night in May 2024, the GOAT willingly gave up that control, stepping into the unfiltered chaos of a Netflix roast.

For three hours, comedians and celebrities took turns torching Brady, poking fun at his career, his age, his dating life—and, most controversially, his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen. The jokes landed hard, but what hit even harder was Brady’s silence. Now, nearly a year later, the roast is still making waves, thanks to a comedian’s fresh revelation about just how little Brady protested. Did he let the mother of his children get thrown under the bus for the sake of a few laughs? Or was this just another brutal chapter in the story of their very public split?

Just like his renowned GOAT title, the show was titled The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. The event was filled with laughter, but unsurprisingly also created plenty of controversies. Roasts are already known for blurring boundaries. But when it comes to someone like Brady, who has been in the public eye for decades, you can expect that nothing will be off-limits. And that’s exactly what happened. Or did it?

The roast was held as part of the Netflix is a Joke Fest comedy festival in Los Angeles. Featuring a star-studded lineup of many comedians and celebrities, the 7-time Super Bowl champion was at the center. Unlike typical roast shows, the participants were not provided with any direction on what topics to steer clear of. No wait, Brady had ascertained that his children were strictly off-limits. In fact, Robert Kraft – the owner of Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots – was also supposed to be a sensitive topic. But what wasn’t? his former wife, Gisele Bundchen. Poor Bundchen became the focal point of many jokes aimed at her former husband’s roast.

But why does this roast continue to be the subject of discussion today? One of the many roast comedians, Andrew Schulz, recently appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast, hosted by Shannon Sharpe. Talking about the roast, he explained why the comedians aimed so many jokes at the Brazilian model. “That divorce must have been bad because he had no problem with those jokes. He was like ‘don’t talk about my kids’ and we were like your wife is cool? And he was like ‘eehhh’,” revealed Schulz that left host Sharpe utterly surprised.

Having said that, Schulz observed that Brady looked pretty hurt when host Kevin Hart kept joking about Bundchen’s boyfriend Joaquim Valente. Context? Brady has previously hinted at cheating allegations against his ex-wife, who happened to recently welcome her first child with the Jiu-Jitsu trainer.

The jokes targeting Bundchen during Brady’s roast sparked significant controversy, with many criticizing the NFL legend for allowing disrespect towards his former wife. Things escalated so far that he reportedly reached out to Bundchen after the show to apologize. As the former sensational couple continue to co-parent their two children and wanted to shield them from the negative fallout.

Brady may not have spoken up during the roast, no matter how far the comedians pushed the boundaries, but he deeply regretted it once it was over. As he collected his thoughts, Brady realized how badly the show could impact his children, whom he has prioritized above all else since his retirement. And in the end he could only manage to say, “I wouldn’t do that again.”

While appearing on The Pivot podcast hosted by Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor, Brady explained, “When I signed up for that — I love when people are making fun of me… I just want to laugh. So I wanted to do the roast because Jeff Ross became someone I knew, but you don’t see the full picture all the time,” he added.

Anyway, he did learn something out of it. While it’s obvious from his words that he wouldn’t be having another roast again, he believes going through it made him a “better parent.” As for Bundchen, she remains focused on her children and taking care of the newest member of her house. Although the roast remains a topic of discussion, she has moved on, and is enjoying life to its fullest.
