The 2024 champion Danielle Collins is back in Miami and her beloved companion is yet again the talk of the town! Yes, we are talking about Quincy – one of Collins’ four dogs. Last year after winning the title in Miami, Collins celebrated her victory with Quincy. She even playfully deemed him to be the real MVP of the tournament. And this year is no exception! Quincy is back in town again and per Collins, he’s ready to showcase all his skills.
After winning the title last year, Collins gushed over her pet and posted an adorable video compilation of his escapades at the 2024 Miami Open. From belly rubs to teaching Quincy how to catch a tennis ball, the video clip captured all the heartwarming moments between Collins and her pet. Danimal captioned that IG post, writing, “Just wanted to do a very quick PSA! This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you, sir!! .“
Collins considers Quincy her “baby son.” In fact, all of her four dogs recently attended her practice session ahead of the 2025 Indian Wells. She even shared a glimpse of that moment on her IG stories with the caption, “My favorite types of spectators .”
Danimal had a disappointing outing at the Indian Wells. She was defeated in straight sets (6-2,6-4) by Elina Svitolina in the third round. The 2024 Miami and Charleston Open champion has had a horrid start to the season overall, with a win-loss record of 3-3 as of now.
The 30-year-old American is keen to make a strong turnaround in Miami and to help her in her missions, she has now got the “MVP of the Miami Open” by her side. Recently, Tecnifibre shared a video clip with Danielle Collins on IG where the World No. 15 could be heard saying, “Quincy, the MVP of the Miami Open is back for round two this year. He got here, came down with me and he’s ready. He’s ready to showcase all of his skills and he’s famous around the grounds.”
Collins also highlighted how some people who were working at the tournament last year, came up and greeted Quincy. “He loves just relishing in the success. He’s a bit of a nepo baby, but nothing wrong with that, right?” said the 30-year-old.
She even revealed some hilarious moments she encountered while having Quincy by her side on the Tour. “You know it’s funny sometimes when he’s on court, he’s really good, he always comes to practice with me and he’s really got about staying on the side of the court. But there are times sometimes if I get upset of if I’m working really hard, he’ll actually come through the middle of the court and stop practice and he’ll look for a while and stare at me. So, I think he’s trying to tell me different things at different times. He’s a good little coach and a good motivator,” Collins said.
The American further shared her thoughts about Quincy’s “very bougie lifestyle” and how she always feeds him with home-cooked meals like salmon fillets, seafood, and stuff like that. “So that’s the biggest motivating factor for me to do well as I have to be able to afford is a bougie lifestyle,” she added.
However, this wasn’t the first time Collins talked about Quincy’s lifestyle. She once admitted, “Quincy is the classic Velcro dog: if she sees me a meter away, she can’t stand it and comes back close to me. He is adorable. He is a sophisticated gentleman; I call him Mr. Q. He is a little spoiled, but with a great personality.”
Even during the 2024 Italian Open, after her win against Victoria Azarenka in the QF, Collins shared a picture of Quincy on her IG stories and said, “Just out here grinding so I can afford my dog’s boujee lifestyle.”
However, Collins enjoys having her lucky charm by her side. Talking about Quincy bringing luck to her campaign last year during the Miami Open, Collins admitted, “I have never made a final of a tournament having my dog here. That has had a positive impact, for sure. I’m learning that my weeks are better with Mr. Q. He’s my son. Having my son here means a lot. It’s also different.” Can Quincy help her defend her title this year?
Danielle Collins’ probable opponents at the 2025 Miami Open
Speaking about the Miami Open, Danielle Collins once said, “I used to beg my dad to take me here and he said, ‘You can go when you play in the tournament.” She was down to tears after defeating Elena Rybakina by 7-5,6-3 in the final last year. It marked her third career title and also her first since 2021. What else did the American say after winning her first WTA 1000 title of her career?
“I’ve worked so hard and it’s taken me a little bit longer than a lot of players on tour,” said Collins. In an interview with Sky Sports, she also mentioned, “Having a whole stadium on my side was something so special. It’s been hard not to get emotional.” It’ll be interesting to see if she can defend her title this time or not.
Collins is all set to face Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in her first match. She defeated the Romanian in the R16 of the 2024 Miami Open by 6-3,6-2. The American leads the H2H 2-0 currently but we must not forget that, Sorana Cîrstea reached the SF in Miami in 2023. Can she throw up a sturdy challenge towards the defending champion? Time will tell!
