According to the source, the possible extension will not contain any deferred money or opt-out opportunities with a full no-trade clause.” They want to create a strong roster that is adept at competing at the highest level for years to come by locking in a player of Tucker’s quality.
The Cubs’ proactive action comes despite intense competition, especially from the New York Yankees. After missing out on Juan Soto, the Pinstripes have aggressively hunted Tucker to strengthen their outfield. The Yankees’ search was hampered by their unwillingness to offer top prospects like Luis Gil and Jason Dominguez in trade talks, enabling the Cubs to land Tucker’s services.
