MLB Analyst Delivers Firm Verdict on Yankees’ Juan Soto Gamble Amid Rising Injury Concerns

3 min read

2025 has been a worthy year for Juan Soto as his financial status has reached new heights after he signed with the New York Mets for a blockbuster fifteen-year, $765 million contract. However, one MLB analyst isn’t happy with how things are going for the Yankees. Why?

Well, as per MLB analyst Jesse Rogers, the New York Yankees’ gamble on Juan Soto isn’t a good move.

Due to a string of injuries plaguing their lineup, the New York Yankees are currently facing some serious issues. There’s Giancarlo Stanton, who got injured, leaving a gap in the team’s offense, while there are Luis Gil, DJ LeMahieu, and Gerrit Cole, who have been sidelined as well.

On March 19, during the “Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney” podcast, Jesse Rogers was asked whether trading Juan Soto was a worse decision amid the injury-riddled lineup and whether he was worth one year for the Yankees. He replied, He made it to the World Series. You know, he got so close to the World Series, you take your shot there. If I were a Yankee fan, I wouldn’t have any regret about that.

Rogers feels that Juan Soto nearly made it to the World Series, and that’s the reason any team would like to bet on him. And that’s his verdict – the Yankees shouldn’t have any regret about signing him for a one-year contract.

Juan Soto had a good 2024 season with an average of .288, made 166 hits, and posted 41 home runs and 109 RBIs across the 157 games he played. Even though he couldn’t bring the WS ring, his credibility cannot be questioned!

But now, the Yankees may have to diversify their roster with the inclusion of some young players.

The New York Yankees focus on diversifying the roster

With multiple injuries in the Yankees lineup, the lack of depth is exposed now, hinting at some new plans to be made. But one thing that needs to be taken into consideration is that majority of the injured players have been quite poor at running the bases. For example, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Luis Gil, and even Juan Soto have been unimpressive as base runners. So, now the New York Yankees will have to diversify the roster, focusing on improving their infield and running between the bases.

So, they have been looking to get the services of young players like Jasson Dominguez, Austin Wells, and Anthony Volpe. Their inclusion in the roster can be a major bet, as it will not only provide the desired depth but will also fulfill the requirements that the Bronx is hopeful about. Baseball insider, Joel Sherman suggested that the addition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. could be effective. Chisholm Jr. had a good 2023 season, hitting 24 homers, 73 RBIs, and 40 stolen bases, at an average of  .256. So, yeah, probably a worthy choice!

But do you think leaving out Juan Soto was a good decision for the Yankees?
