“There were bigger things that were not fixable in that marriage,” Khloé Kardashian said as she sat down to meet Lamar Odom after more than nine years. After their divorce, the two hadn’t spoken during this time until a sudden reunion was planned between the socialite and the former NBA player in Season 6 of The Kardashians. More than a reunion, Khloe wanted to return some of his belongings that she still had with her. Weeks after the episode, the socialite spoke about her divorce as well as her reunion with Odom.
The two met back in 2009 at Metta World Peace’s party, and soon started dating. Odom’s official proposal to Kardashian was shown in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians in September 2009. The couple got married and even starred in a reality TV show, Khloé & Lamar, together. After several speculations on Odom’s infidelity and substance-abuse issues, Kardashian filed for divorce for the first time in 2013. The Los Angeles Lakers legend was even in rehab. After a long period, the pair signed the divorce papers in 2015.
However, in October of the same year, Odom was hospitalized in Las Vegas. It was a very tough time, and the socialite had to make another big decision. After postponing her divorce, Khloe stayed by the 45-year-old’s side throughout his healing process and took care of him after his “overdose.” However, as both Kardashian and Odom reportedly claimed, she left him after the former Lakers player repeated the same mistakes.
“And then when he was at a decent place, he started using again. And he said that on the show. That’s why I’m saying it now. And from that moment was when I was paying for a house for him to be in, and I had ever I was taking care of him, and I said, ‘I can never see you again,’” Kardashian said on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty Podcast.
Khloe was reportedly still the legal wife of Odom. She further added, “When he started using again after such a horrific accident, where he, in my opinion, is a miracle that he is alive today.
“I couldn’t understand how someone would go and do that again. And I get it’s a disease, but it felt like you punched me in my stomach. And I put so much of my life on hold to take care of this person, just for them to be like, ‘That’s fine.’ Like, I’m not sure how he felt about himself. It made me feel that he had no respect for his own life,” she revealed.

Their reunion on The Kardashians served more as closure, as the mother of two recounted. She even added that she had no emotions when she met her ex after all these years. Though she’s endured public heartbreaks since her split from Odom, Khloe remains surprisingly hopeful about love and marriage.

Khloe has never been one to give up on love — even when it’s let her down more than once. While her high-profile relationships with Lamar Odom and later, Tristan Thompson, ended in heartbreak and headlines, Khloe’s outlook on love remains refreshingly hopeful.
“People are always so surprised that I’m not more cynical when it comes to love,” she shared with Shetty. And honestly? Fair enough. After all the ups and downs — from supporting Odom through a life-threatening overdose to navigating very public cheating scandals — you might expect her to be done with the idea of happily ever after. But not Khloe Kardashian.
“They always ask, ‘Do you ever think you’re gonna get married again?’ And I go, ‘Yes, I hope I’m gonna get married again.’,” she said. “I think marriage is the most beautiful union that there is, and I love that. I love family.” It’s not just blind optimism, though.
Kardashian made it clear that she’s learned a lot about herself and how she loves. She says she’s “more joyful now, especially with love,” because she’s grown wiser about where — and with whom — she places her energy. “Before, you just give things so freely,” she reflected. “But I feel like I’m a little bit wiser with whom I give it to.”
So while she’s been through her share of heartache, Khloe Kardashian’s heart? Still very much open. And maybe that’s her real superpower — being able to move forward with grace, growth, and still a little belief in love.
