Viktor Hovland finally broke the curse! For more than a year, the Norwegian was searching long and hard for a PGA Tour win. The last time he won a title was in 2023 at East Lake Golf Course. But since his Tour Championship win, Hovland has failed to deliver the results. But all that changed at the Copperhead Course where the 27-year-old finally captured the 7th PGA Tour win of his career. With the Valspar Champion 2025 in his hands, Hovland sat down for a post-tournament press conference.
That’s when one of the journalists asked him, “How happy are you with your swing right now?” Everyone knows Hovland has been struggling to perfect his swing for some time now. That was partly the reason behind his lack of titles in 2024. And the Norway national explained that his swing is not yet where he wants it to be. After elaborating on the specifics of the same, he simply ended with, “I’m extremely proud of that I can show up at a PGA Tour event at one of the hardest golf courses we play all year and still win with not my best stuff.” Hovland is definitely someone who can beat the field even when he is not in his best touch. And that’s what others find inspiring about him.
In fact, one of his peers even complimented Hovland for his incredible club-swinging ability. Michael Kim tweeted “Viktor Hovland is just supremely talented. Idk if he realizes how many guys he has influenced to make swing changes to a bowed left wrist hitting pull cuts. I’ve talked to at least 2 or 3 players (including me!) that tried that because of how good and free he looks hitting the ball. (Don’t try it. It’s a very unique move and it takes a lot of speed and mobility to even try to hit it straight from there IMO).” Seems that there are a few on the Tour who have tried and failed to replicate Hovland’s amazing swing.
