William Contreras’ crushing home run to finish off a big four-run seventh inning helped the Milwaukee Brewers beat the slumping New York Mets 7-4 on Saturday. Yet, the Mets’ loss couldn’t overshadow Pete Alonso’s record-tying night. Alonso started off the second inning with his stunning 252nd career homer. He’s now tied Darryl Strawberry’s franchise record that had stood untouched for 37 years. But that milestone alone couldn’t lift the Mets. The Brewers went up 2-1 in the same inning with two unearned runs, as the Mets’ star shortstop Francisco Lindor failed to corral Ortiz’s two-out bouncer up the middle with the bases loaded.
It was a costly two-run error that brought a very rare frustration from Lindor. He was seen in the dugout, slamming his glove repeatedly as if it had wronged him.

Lindor is one of the Fab Four for Steve Cohen, but his costly lapse against the Brewers contributed massively to the loss. Given how he lost his cool, it was a rare sight that invited fiery reactions from the fans. The Mets briefly went up 3-2 in the fourth inning after Cedric Mullins’ RBI single. But in the bottom half, Brice Turang evened things up with his 10th home run.
The Brewers recorded four runs in the seventh inning to grab their eighth straight victory this month. The club has won 11 of their last 12 games, improving their record to 72-44. Meanwhile, the Mets have lost their sixth straight game and 10th in the last 11. They are now 4 1/2 games behind the first-place Phillies in the NL East.
But for now, more than the Mets’ record or Pete Alonso’s record-tying night, it’s Lindor’s rare animated side that has left fans guessing.

Lindor’s visible frustration after the costly error quickly went viral. The game didn’t even make it to the final inning, and fans had already shared their blunt reactions. Subtly pointing at his recent struggles, a fan wrote, “He should stop playing so badly, then he wouldn’t be frustrated.”
Well, Lindor has been struggling for weeks now. In mid-July, Lindor experienced the worst offensive slump of his career—a six-game stretch that began before the All-Star break and saw him go hitless in 28 consecutive at-bats. The streak eventually extended to 0-for-31 before he finally recorded a base hit on July 23. So, all the miscues piled up brought in a frustrating reaction from him. Not surprising!
Some took hilarious jabs at him. “Glad to see he can hit something hard,” read a comment. Did you know earlier this year, the shortstop was compared to Yankees’ former legend Derek Jeter? Lindor had 2.1 more WAR than Jeter despite playing in 115 fewer games. A couple of months down the road, though, the scenario has flipped.
Some hinted at a shift in roster decisions: “Mets need to find a taker for him in the offseason.” Now, that’s a bit harsh. It’s not like Lindor hasn’t delivered Gold Glove-caliber defense. Across 112 games, he has batted. 251 with a .757 OPS, 21 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases this season.
“I’ve never seen that side of Lindor. Hope things turn around quick for him,” read another comment. Lindor was traded from the Cleveland Guardians back in 2021. Since joining the Mets, he has notched two Silver Slugger Awards, an All-Star selection, and finished top-10 in NL MVP voting in each of the last three seasons. So, it’s probably just a slump, and fans are hoping he regains his lost momentum soon.
“THIS IS GREAT!!! I prefer this than fake smiles and “we need to be better” statements every day,” one more X user commented. While Lindor’s reaction didn’t sit well with many, some believe it’s better to see the transparent side of him rather than hearing the polished postgame remarks.
