LSU’s spring practice just kicked off, and the buzz is already wild. You know how it goes—new season, new drama, and Baton Rouge’s got that ‘something big is cookin’ vibe in the air. Brian Kelly and his Tigers just wrapped up week one, and if you’re not paying attention, you’re already behind. The word on the street: 4200-yard gunslinger just shook up the scene, leaving Sooners and OSU on hang. Look, this ain’t just a regular practice report; it’s LSU’s blueprint to reclaim their crown, and things are already popping off.
Word on the street? Matt Moscona, LSU insider and certified hype man, hit his ‘After Further Review’ podcast, spilling tea hot enough to scorch the Bayou. He ain’t holding back. “The four plays we saw—first play, Caden Durham stretched around left end, turned it for about 15 yards. Second down, the second play they ran a read option with Garrett Nussmeier, who kept the ball for about a 20-yard gain around the right side. Y’all will be very happy to know, at one point Joe Sloan actually turned back and looked at the media and was like, ‘Even y’all like that, huh?’”
That’s right. Garrett Nussmeier is out here running read options and making them look too easy. And if that wasn’t enough to get the fanbase drooling, Durham’s tearing it up, and even the defensive young bloods are flashing their talent like they’ve got something to prove. It’s like everybody’s trying to make sure their name stays on Kelly’s mind.
Moscona kept it rolling: “Austin Ausberry, who’s playing the star, beautiful fill the gap, stuffed Durham right at the line of scrimmage. And then on the fourth play, Tamarcus Cooley, who’s kinda playing the nickel safety, they ran a 10-yard out for Aaron Anderson, and Tamarcus Cooley had great coverage and knocked it down. They’re just better defensively, y’all. Like, the talent—it’s just so obvious.”
Translation? The Tigers’ defense came into play this year. LSU fans remember the nightmare last season at safety when Jordan Gilbert went down. But now? Cooley’s looking like he’s ready to step up and run things. And speaking of Gilbert, Kelly confirmed the bad news—shoulder surgery’s got him out for the entire spring. But the defense ain’t missing a beat. Cooley’s holding it down, and LSU’s DB room got that extra heat it was missing before.
When Moscona dropped the first-team lineup, you could hear the internet buzzing: Nussmeier at quarterback, Durham at running back, Trey’Dez Green at tight end, and your receivers—Zavion Thomas, Chris Hilton, Aaron Anderson. The offensive line? Adams, Paul Mubenga, DJ Chester, Bo Bordelon, Davis. On defense, Gabe Reliford and Jack Pyburn anchoring the ends, Dom McKinley and Ahmad Breaux holding down the interior. Linebackers West Weeks and Davhon Keys, with Ashton Stamps and Ja’keem Jackson at cornerback, and the safety duo of Javien Toviano and Tamarcus Cooley from NC State.
Five practices down and the Tigers are already looking’ mean. But you know how it goes; things are just getting spicy. And oh, it’s about to get hotter, ‘cause there’s a 4200-yard gunslinger sniffing around Baton Rouge and everybody’s on edge. If you thought LSU’s spring practice was the only thing worth watching, buckle up. This next part is gonna be a movie.
4200-yard gunslinger shakes things up with LSU Tigers!
While everyone’s tripping over LSU’s spring improvements, the real pocket bomb thrower showed up to witness it all. That’s right, Bowe Bentley—the 6’2”, 200-pound, No.10 QB in the class of 2026, 4200-yard-throwing gunslinger out of Celina High School in Texas—was on campus, checking out what Brian Kelly’s building. And the word is, the kid liked what he saw. “They have something special there,” Bentley said. Yeah, you heard him right. Special.
The Sooners and Buckeyes gotta be sweating bullets. Oklahoma’s been pressing hard for Bentley’s commitment, even though they’ve already got another four-star QB, Jaden O’Neal, locked in. But Bentley’s been a Sooners fan since he was little, so naturally, OU’s got a leg up, right? Not so fast. Bentley’s also making the rounds with Ohio State, planning a visit to Columbus to see how he’d fit into Ryan Day’s quarterback factory. And if history’s any indication, the Buckeyes are straight-up QB whisperers.

But then there’s LSU, the dark horse that might just pull this whole heist off. Bentley’s interest in the Tigers is heating up faster than crawfish in a boil. LSU is already flexing with Garrett Nussmeier running the offense, and head coach Brian Kelly’s got that slick combo of experience and charm that can lure even the most locked-in recruits. Sure, Bowe Bentley’s still got visits lined up for Georgia, Florida State, and Georgia Tech. But the Tigers are already elbowing their way into that top-three conversation.
And listen, Bowe Bentley led his squad to a perfect 16-0 record and a state title last season, stacking stats like it’s a game of Madden. He’s absolute Bentley of the 2026 QB class. This ain’t some casual recruiting process where the kid’s just smiling for the camera and taking free tours. Nah, this kid’s serious. His stock is rising like crazy, and the battle for his commitment is turning into an all-out recruiting war.
What’s clear is that LSU’s making major moves, and having Bowe Bentley in the mix just made things a lot more interesting. The Tigers are out here making a statement. And if Brian Kelly and company keep playing their cards right, we could be looking at one of the biggest recruiting steals of the year. Brian Kelly and LSU’s living spring life better than every other program in the country.
