When it comes to trash-talking, very few can match the level of Gervonta Davis. He is one of the few fighters that can back his talk inside the ring. Tank was once again sensational on the mic ahead of his fight against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1 at the Barclays Center. He was confident and even agreed to pay Roach $250,000 if he failed to knock him out during their fight.

However, as you already know, Roach not only stopped the WBA lightweight champion from knocking him out, but he also managed to drag him to a split draw. And you probably already know about the controversy surrounding the 9th-round knee that wasn’t ruled a knockdown. This means that even though he was not able to clinch the title away from Tank, Roach did manage to win the wager as per the terms set by the two on stage. Therefore, the 30-year-old now owes $250,000 to Roach. So, did Gervonta Davis pay up? Lamont Roach finally decided to reveal the truth.

Something wrong with Gervonta Davis’ phone

Lamont Roach sat down with platinum-selling recording artists Ma$e and Cam’ron and Cigar Talk podcast host Naji on the recent episode of the ‘It is What It Is’ podcast. During the interview, Jones asked the Washington native about the wager and whether Gervonta Davis had paid him back after the fight. Hilariously, Roach revealed that he called Tank a few days after the fight. However, he was not able to reach him. “I’ma tell you, I call his phone must have changed his number or something I ain’t get no response,” he stated as everyone burst out laughing.

However, the 29-year-old is still hopeful that he will get his money and believes that Gervonta Davis might be busy at the moment. He revealed, “I hope he do [pay the bet]. Maybe he on his own thing right now. I called him and then I DMed him and tell you ‘N***a I called you, call me back’,” but his efforts were in vain.

While Lamont Roach Jr. is still waiting for his wager money, there is something he has definitely earned after the March 1 bout. Something that has changed his life completely.

Lamont Roach Jr. on coming to terms with new fame

During the same podcast, The Reaper admitted how the fight has changed his life overnight. “Bro, literally, overnight [everything] changed,” Roach told co-host Naji. He revealed how he has discovered a new-found notoriety to the point where he is unable to walk around without security now, which, according to him is “crazy.”

“I can’t do the same stuff that I used to do. I can’t go nowhere, bro, I can’t do [anything] and it’s crazy. It’s just crazy,” he confessed. Roach accepted that he knew such things would happen if he kept on climbing the ladder. However, it was still overwhelming. “When it really happened to you—you sit back and look at it like, ‘Damn! This really happened off of this one performance’,” he stated looking back at his life before and after the Gervonta Davis fight.

While Lamont Roach is still enjoying the newfound popularity, he would love for Gervonta Davis to pay him back. On second thought, he might even settle for a rematch at the moment. What do you think?
