A few weeks have passed since Kyrie Irving tore his ACL during the Kings clash and got shut down for the season. But the accusations against him and the Mavs organization are still buzzing. Many believe that a major reason Irving got injured was his increased playing time after the Luka Doncic trade. In his final ten appearances before the unfortunate incident, he was averaging a league high 39.3 minutes. Frustrated by the ongoing speculations, the veteran guard has finally broken silence.
Calling out the fans and critics, Kyrie said, “They blame J Kidd or blame the Dallas Mavericks and all this other stuff. They were trying to blame cause I was playing a lot of minutes. I’m telling you right now, if you ask 95% of the league, there’s another 5% that don’t really care what they play. If you ask 95% of the league if they’d rather be playing 15 minutes or 35 minutes a night, I guarantee you 95% would say 35 minutes.”
Of course, most NBA players would rather be on the court than sit idle on the bench. Irving has the same mentality. He added, “I led the league in minutes, so the f— what? So the f— what?” With Luka gone and Anthony Davis injured in his debut, the Mavs had no option but to rely on Kyrie to keep their playoffs dream alive. And Irving did great, averaging 24.7 points and nearly five assists. Had he not gotten injured, the same people who are criticizing him might have celebrated him for carrying the team. So, Kyrie’s frustration is justified.

Moreover, he also called out the former NBA players who criticize the younger generation every chance they get, “I’m talking to some of the former players too, they have lost their way… there are some former players that just be talking chat s— on like. You don’t even be talking about anything, all you do is hate on younger players.” Kyrie believes while the younger generation respects and idolizes the legends for paving the way, some retired players constantly disregard their struggles because they earn millions of dollars.
Kyrie continued, “I’m so sick of that f—— excuse bro that you’re not allowed to feel because you make a lot of money in the NBA and you get paid.” While Ky made his stance clear about the ongoing accusations, there is still major uncertainty surrounding his future in Dallas.
Mark Cuban says Mavs parting ways with Kyrie Irving makes “No Sense”
Well, Irving is eligible for a massive extension this summer as he has a $43.9 million player option for next season. However, speculations are that the new Mavs ownership could waive the superstar following his ACL injury. Amid the buzz, former majority owner Mark Cuban revealed his thoughts about the Mavs potentially parting ways with Kyrie this summer, “I don’t watch the rumor mill… That makes no sense whatsoever.”
As a counter argument, the host of Your Mom’s House Podcast pointed out that the Doncic trade also made no sense but happened anyway. This led to a shocking confession from Cuban, “You’re right i mean that didn’t make sense and I love Kyrie too. Maybe they’re trying to get rid of the people I like.” Yes, it was under Cuban’s ownership that Ky moved to Dallas, and Mark has been pretty vocal about his admiration for the former champion in the past.
However, Cuban acknowledged that anything can happen under new ownership, “Somebody comes in, takes over a new company, and gets rid of the old guys.” Meanwhile, Dallas Morning News’ Mike Curtis believes Kyrie is not going anywhere, “The goal is to keep Kyrie in Dallas as long as they can. Before the injury, he was definitely on track for a max extension. I think that’s still the case.” Of course, Irving is still in his prime and is one of the few players in the Mavs roster with championship experience. And there are not many better point guards than him in the NBA. So, the front office could end up giving him that massive extension after all. Thoughts?
