The anticipation was high after Sunday’s Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. But it wasn’t because of the result, or the controversies at the 1.5-mile venue that got the most attention. Instead, Kyle Busch’s cryptic tweet sparked plenty of speculation, which teased an exciting new announcement on social media. After the race wrapped up, ‘Rowdy’ posted an intriguing teaser that something would be revealed at 18:51 pm on Monday, prompting fans to play the guessing game.
Was it related to the next big chapter in Busch’s career, with rumors of a move to 23XI Racing? Or perhaps a new sponsor is being onboarded by Richard Childress Racing? Well, as it turns out, most of them guessed incorrectly, as the veteran racer revealed he will be racing against his son, Brexton Busch at Millbridge on March 26th!
A brand new family rivalry is brewing!
The timing seemed oddly specific. 18:51 raised a few eyebrows, as it perhaps hinted at a reference to his past. After all, 18 was Kyle Busch’s number at Joe Gibbs Racing while 51 was the number plastered across his Kyle Busch Motorsports truck back in the day. Naturally, many felt that the timing of the announcement may have something to do with his former team, or even perhaps the release of new merchandise as a throwback to the olden days.
However, in an unexpected twist, Kyle Busch revealed that he will be racing against his nine-year-old son Brexton, in what is already being described as ‘Battle of the Busch’s.’ You read that right, the father-son duo will go head-to-head at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina, and fans can catch up on the action on DirtVision, a streaming platform known for its dirt racing coverage.
As we know, Brexton Busch has already been making waves on go-karts, showing that he takes after his father on the racetrack. Last year, both Brexton and Kyle Busch shared a moment on Millbridge Speedway after both drivers secured memorable results on the track. Competing in the Restricted Micro race, Rowdy’s son ended up finishing second, just behind Kyle Larson’s son Owen. Despite the outcome, it was Brexton Busch who came home with the title. In 2025, Brexton secured his first Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shootout. He continued this run of form as the year progressed, winning the Bandit feature race at the Inex Winter Nationals, followed by Junior Sprint wins at Port City Raceway.
For the FIRST TIME EVER, @brextonbusch and I will race head-to-head!

Meanwhile, even though he doesn’t have a dirt racing background, Kyle Busch competed in the Winged Micros category at Millbridge Speedway and won the championship. The Nevada native had written on X, “Big year at [Millbridge Speedway] [with Brexton Busch] and both of us being able to bring home championships in our respective divisions. The future looks bright!” Fans will be flocking to the racetrack to see the family rivalry unfold in real time. Could Brexton Busch prove that he’s the next big thing in motorsports by getting a result? Time will tell.
Kyle Busch reveals Brexton’s challenges on the racetrack
Who would have thought that Kyle Busch would have his own racing dynasty? It’s been a wild ride for ‘Rowdy’, who has gone from being NASCAR’s bad boy to one of the cleanest drivers on the grid, despite some arguing that mellowing down with age has led to his long-standing winless streak. However, just like the Earnhardt’s and the Petty’s, the Nevada native is expecting to see his family name being carried forward in the motorsports world through his son Brexton. But the road to the highest level is far from easy, a lesson the nine-year-old is learning the hard way.
Despite clinching the Millbridge Speedway championship and a golden driller win at the Tulsa Shootout, the young driver also has his share of bad days. Opening up about such instances, Kyle Busch said on Kevin Harvick‘s Happy Hour podcast, “There are times where I want to get on him about something. I’ll tell him and he’s like, ‘I’m trying, dad! I’m doing that! The car’s terrible! It stinks! It’s not fast enough.’ I’m like, ‘Hold on a second. You got the best money can buy. Sometimes it’s not our problem, it’s your problem. You’ve got to figure it out.’”
It’s not just Brexton Busch, young drivers often struggle to hold themselves accountable and understand the discipline they need. However, having a mentor like the two-time Cup Series champ is perfect for the nine-year-olds development, as Busch said, “Like the accolades speak for themselves, I think he respects that.” While Rowdy has also had his share of poor performances on the racetrack, the 2025 campaign has begun on a positive note for the 39-year-old, as he has secured three top-ten results in the opening six races.
However, after this announcement, all the focus shifted from Rowdy’s Cup Series performances to the Battle of the Busch’s. Who do you think will come out on top? Let us know in the comments!
