Kirby Smart’s Georgia Dragged Into TJ Finley’s Car Stealing Controversy as Fans Refuse To Give up Past History

Quarterback turned thief! Sounds weird, right? This is the peculiarly sad reality that the entire college football world is dealing with right now. Tyler “TJ” Finley, the quarterback for Tulane University who started his college career as an LSU Tiger, ended up in police custody. Thanks to the grisly act of allegedly stealing a truck. Tulane Police arrested the athlete on Wednesday and sent him to the Orleans Parish Jail for one count of theft over $25,000. Although he got bail, the university pulled the rug. In a much-anticipated step, the higher-ups announced he remains suspended from the program until the case is resolved.

The meat of the story is his vehicle, which he said he has bought from Atlanta, as per the official source. The cops smelled something fishy and found out that he had stolen it from Georgia. The school refrained from sharing any additional information to abide by the federal laws protecting students’ privacy, but it was certainly not in their wildest dreams to see one of their key players in handcuffs. That’s a pain; that’s a shame.

The fun part is it’s not just the shame for Tulane and its associates but also for all who were ever related to his career or showcased any kind of interest in him. However, a player arrested by the police, and somehow, fans won’t use it to mock the Bulldogs? Well, although Kirby Smart has nothing to do with Tyler Finley, the arrest meant that jokes were told with the Bulldogs as the punchline. Why though?

Well, just in March 2025, the Bulldogs suspended two players for driving-related charges. There have been 32 such incidents involving Georgia players since 2023. Despite his on-field success, the failure to maintain discipline in his ranks has put a dent on his time with the Bulldogs. Fans spotted the Georgia antics amidst the scandal and put Smart on notice.

Kirby Smart turned a laughingstock after the latest Tyler ‘TJ’ Finley scandal cropped up

Now, this can be a total coincidence how Georgia connected with such a QB who later found himself in legal trouble. But fans didn’t leave a chance to call out Smart on a big hypocrisy. Smart even sang praise to Mike Bobo when he was at Auburn for how intelligently he used Finley to chisel out the best. “He’s got a quarterback who’s got a lot of experience. And I think them playing (TJ) Finley late in the Georgia State game gave him a lot of confidence where both quarterbacks can play,” Smart said back in 2021. The forgotten past resurfaced as a fan poked fun at him, saying, “Georgia just offered him a scholarship.” The rib-tickling GIF attached spoke of their tone in the comment.

One fan went a few extra steps and wrote, “Heard Georgia is interested in him now.” While another nonchalantly tagged him as a Bulldog. “That’s a Georgia Bulldog.” Finley had an awesome stat to flaunt across his four college stops (Texas State, Auburn, Western Kentucky, Tulane). Finley has completed 63% of his pass attempts for 6,128 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. Finley’s longest flex as a starter came at Texas State when he racked up 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while rushing for eight touchdowns in 13 games played. But hold on!

All of his athletic supremacy came down to one single thing. Full and final. While the case might get dismissed or he gets some punishment, the scandal will take a serious toll on his QB’s future. No team, after all, wants a good score machine at the cost of their goodwill and culture. But fans kept on joking, “Georgia will take him.” Another fan echoed the same banter and wrote: Was he trying out to be the next QB at Georgia? If so, he made the cut, QB 1! Puns aside, we will see how the future pans out for the Tulane QB.
