Keyshawn Davis’ Future Sealed With Social Media Agreement

4 min read

So no Gervonta Davis, no Raymond Muratalla, or, for that matter, no Andy Cruz. If things turn out the way they appear, then Edwin De Los Santos may have the last laugh. After the Dominican southpaw called him out publicly, social media exploded as fans witnessed Keyshawn Davis responding back with a cryptic message.

Banking on a past conversation, De Los Santos approached ‘The Businessman.’ Perhaps the Norfolk native found himself cornered. So he told De Los Santos to initiate the proceedings. Last month, on Valentine’s Day, Davis registered a thumping victory over Denys Berinchyk. As the WBO’s new champion, he became an immediate target for eager challengers. As much as he wants to unify the title, ‘The Businessman’ was likely caught off guard by an unexpected call-out.

A quick call to refresh the promise

A confusing situation emerged when reports suggested Edwin De Los Santos face-timed Keyshawn Davis on Instagram. On ‘Mill City Boxing,‘ speaking through an interpreter, the Dominican fighter spilled the beans on the conversation that took place between him and Davis. Seemingly Davis favored a matchup after the Jose Pedraza fight. The fight with the Puerto Rican, for the WBO Inter-Continental, WBC USNBC, and vacant IBF USBA lightweight titles, took place last February.

The host questioned the timing of the FaceTime. So the interpreter clarified, “He said, Yeah, but that was from the time that they had that conversation, that after Keyshawn said he was after he fought the Pedraza fight, they FaceTime each other, and Keyshawn had told him at that time that, Yeah, you’re next.”

However, the fight never materialized. The interpreter added further, “Well, we obviously saw that that wasn’t next, okay, and so that’s why he’s putting up that picture now. You champion, you say I’m next, right? So that’s why he put that picture up. Okay, he wants him now.

Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin De Los Santos – No more talk, let’s fight!

It was time the contender made his intentions public. “It seems that you forgot my name and our conversation before fighting with Pedraza. @KeyshawnDavis8,” tweeted Edwin De Los Santos. Soon he received ‘The Businessman’s reply, “Put that [pen] to paper; [that’s] all you gotta do now. Let’s go,” to which De Los Santos stamped his approval: “Let’s go .”

Many will be left scratching their heads over this puzzling development. It’s been over a year since Edwin De Los Santos stepped into the ring. Months after the loss to Shakur Stevenson, reports emerged that he had been struggling with medical issues. Due to blood clot issues, he underwent a long recovery. Then, as the year began, reports of a potential matchup with Frank Martin surfaced.

If Keyshawn Davis sticks to his word, well and good. But there remains a bigger question. In his quest for boxing glory, should he invest himself in fighting a low-ranked contender or focus on bigger fights with far greater paydays? It’s a different thing if Davis treats the De Los Santos fight as a tune-up to prepare himself for the next challenge.

What do you think about the potential Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin De Los Santos fight, if it comes together?
