It’s safe to say that Brooklyn’s super team didn’t pay off quite as expected. So much so that neither of Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving would hesitate to remove that time from their memory. KD’s 4 seasons had 4 straight playoff appearances- something the Nets fans would sacrifice their left arm for right now. But they never even went past the semis with their supposed “super team”. And Durant’s decision to choose them over rivals Knicks probably still haunts him to this day. Today was the day he chose to take a step against those nightmares.
Nets’ insider Anthony Puccio had this to say on X: “The best thing that ever happened for the Knicks was KD and Kyrie choosing Brooklyn. It took time, but they were forced to restructure and build out organically.” But the terms “organic” in professional sports seems contradictory. The word has lost all value. And Durant was the first to highlight this in his reply, when he said: “I don’t think the Knicks success has anything to do with me or Kyrie. An Organic nba team, what does that even mean in professional sports?”
