The Suns didn’t exactly slam the door on trading Kevin Durant earlier this season—they just left it cracked. Teams called. Offers came through. But none of them made Phoenix blink. They weren’t sold, so they let it ride. At the time, it felt like they were just buying themselves time, pushing the tough call down the line like a Netflix show you keep saying you’ll watch later. Now, with the season basically on its last leg, that conversation might resurface.
But until then, he’s going to remain at Phoenix, albeit on the bench.
Kevin Durant’s not going to suit up on Tuesday —and that’s huge for the Warriors. He’s missing his fourth straight game since twisting his ankle in that embarrassing 148-109 collapse against the Rockets on March 30. Yeah, that one was rough.
Since KD went down, Phoenix has been taking Ls left and right. Three games, three losses—each by nearly 15 points. The most recent came at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks handled them 123-103. You could feel the difference without Durant on the floor.

Even at 36, the guy’s still cooking. He’s been averaging 26.6 points, 6 boards, and over 4 dimes while shooting like it’s NBA 2K—52.7% overall and a crazy 43% from deep. But here’s where it gets tricky—Durant has only played 62 games this season, and he’s only got four left on the calendar.
The NBA’s 65-game rule for awards eligibility? Yeah, it’s looming large. One more missed game and KD’s officially out of the running for All-NBA and any major individual honors. It’s wild to think a player putting up numbers like that could be disqualified over something like a late-season ankle tweak, but here we are.
So yeah, KD missing Tuesday’s matchup? It’s not just a setback for Phoenix. It could cost him a spot on an All-NBA team. That’s legacy stuff. Contract stuff. All of it.
And for fans in the Bay Area, it’s a weird one—seeing him on the sideline instead of on the court where he once owned June. But hey, don’t rule out a return just yet.
Kevin Durant could return to Golden State
Crazy as it sounds, there’s already buzz about Kevin Durant heading back to the Bay. Yep, the same dude who helped Golden State grab two rings might just be on their radar again. But don’t expect it to happen this season.
The Suns had trade talks in February, but nothing materialized. It wasn’t a value issue—KD still brings the heat. The snag? Phoenix wanted a haul. And unless a team was willing to offer a Godfather deal, KD was staying put.
Brian Windhorst spilled the tea, saying Durant “made it clear he didn’t want one,” and Phoenix, in turn, asked for a monster return. Can’t blame them. You don’t trade a future Hall of Famer just ‘cause you’re stuck in neutral.

Durant landed in Phoenix in 2023 as their supposed Finals savior. Instead, it’s been two short playoff stints and zero deep runs. Meanwhile, the Western Conference is stacked like a Marvel movie lineup.
And then there’s his contract—$54.7 million due in 2026. That kind of number doesn’t exactly scream “easy trade chip.” Still, the Warriors reportedly showed interest, and talks did happen. They just didn’t lead anywhere.
That could change this summer. If Golden State wants one last ride with KD, and Phoenix is ready to move on, buckle up. Twitter might implode if he suits up in blue and gold again.
