The Intimidator is inarguably the most loved NASCAR figure of all time. If not for his tragic accident in 2001, nothing could have stopped him. DEI would have never shut down, and Junior would never have raced for any team other than his own. But, as luck may have it, things did not go as fans envisioned them back then. After Dale Jr.’s altercation with his stepmother, the Pied Piper stayed close to his sister, Kelley Earnhardt Miller. They co-own JR Motorsports together, and things always look up for the Earnhardts.
Recently, Kelly, the aunt of the two little Earnhardt angels, became a victim of an impromptu Easter prank by a sprightly four-year-old niece, Nicole Lorraine Earnhardt. The whole scene was recorded and soon hit social media, the perfect adorable moment for fans and family alike.
During the Easter festivities, Kelley Earnhardt Miller shared a flood of Instagram stories about the day. Among the memorabilia and all those colorful eggs, one memory captured the essence: the one where young Nicole pulled a prank. As Kelley posted in her story, “Aunty Kelley, see if you can find my sock in this slime.” The innocent deed was subsequently met with a lot of good-natured teasing and laughter, indicative of the bond shared by aunt and niece.
This isn’t the first time Nicole’s antics have charmed family and fans alike. A video that found its way online featured her proclaiming how she was “allergic to people”, which fairly amused both her parents and aunt Kelley. This is a glimpse into the boisterous yet loving space within which the Earnhardts thrive while maintaining a public image. But they are building a legacy, and Nicole could just be the missing link. However, she is not the first Nicole Earnhardt.
A legacy beyond the track, soon to return to asphalt
Kelley Earnhardt’s professional place goes beyond the racetrack. She is the guiding light in her niece Nicole’s life, the nurturing spirit that matches her business drive. But the first Nicole in the family was Taylor Nicole Earnhardt, Dale Jr.’s half-sister. She has now married to Brandon Putnam since 2012. And let’s just say she is carrying the family legacy forward. Never heard of her on racetracks? Guess you’ve been looking for her at the wrong place.
Taylor Nicole followed the family legacy of her husband and was a full-time contestant in rodeo! In 2015, she was a contender in the Southern Rodeo Association‘s Finals. She is the living proof that the Earnhardt family runs on adrenaline and speed, and gas isn’t mandatory. But how did she end up on the other side of the globe?
Well, the Intimidator’s legacy has opened doors for her. “Everybody knows who Dale Earnhardt is, and the rodeo world overlaps a whole lot with the same kind of fans and following that NASCAR has. No one in my family with my name has rodeo-ed, so I was able to get in the door with who I am, but then prove to folks who I actually am as a person through my work,” she said in an interview with Mountain Xpress. And, fairly so. Her work has defined her. Even her contribution to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation.
See, Nicole Putnam has been at the forefront of FEF operations. She empowers Girl Scouts of America, provides scholarships, and facilitates many other social services. However, after having her baby, Sage Putnam in 2016, she has mellowed down a bit. After all, taking care of a child requires all the attention in the world. Just ask Leah Pruett and Tony Stewart! Smoke just won himself a dragster NHRA race while Pruett took care of their newly born!
