4 min read

April 14, 2025, was a day of celebration for many golf fans around the world. They finally saw Rory McIlroy win the Green Jacket and become the Grand Slam champion. But on the other side, Justin Rose and his camp were also saddened by the Englishman’s loss. For the second time in his career, he had failed to win the Masters despite reaching the playoffs. Still gracious as ever, the veteran golfer congratulated his rival for the day as he knew how much it meant for McIlroy to finally get there. So did Rose’s wife as she embraced the Irishman who defeated her husband minutes ago. It was an emotional moment all around.

Regarded as the “nicest guy” in sport, Justin Rose also had many rooting for him. Fox’s Michael Strahan also confessed that he was backing the Englishman to go all the way through before the final round began. The world also showed as much love to Rose as they did to McIlroy for their outstanding performances at Augusta National. And after the latest revelation about the Ryder Cup, it seems that the 44-year-old is ecstatic about a Team Europe update.

The official account of Ryder Cup Europe shared a post with a caption “ VICE CAPTAIN Welcome back José María Olazábal .” The Instagram post also included a smiling picture of the Spanish legend who has two Green Jackets of his own. Many dropped by to congratulate Olazabal, including an overjoyed Justin Rose.

Moments after the post was shared, Justin Rose commented, “Best news today. ” The amazing news from Ryder Cup Europe seems to have made the day for the 11x PGA Tour winner. Especially when he himself is contending for a position in the final Team Europe squad, going against the Americans at Bethpage in September 2025.

As mentioned, Rose was not the only one to celebrate the amazing news. Others also dropped by to share their warm wishes for Jose Maria Olazabal. Let’s see what they had to say.

Justin Rose leads a series of warm messages for the returning Team Europe Vice Captain

Knowing the kind nature of Justin Rose, it didn’t come as a surprise that the Englishman showed his support to Jose Maria Olazabal. That Spanish legend’s captain, Luke Donald, also shared a comment that showed him applauding his deputy with “.” The Team Europe leader might have also played a vital role in ensuring Olazabal was reinstated for the role in the 2025 Ryder Cup. However, Donald did have a lot more to share on X as he retweeted Ryder Cup Europe’s post with the following quote:José María Olazábal is woven into the fabric of Ryder Cup history. As a player, he earned 20½ points across seven appearances and formed one of the most iconic partnerships ever with Seve Ballesteros. His legacy was cemented as Captain in 2012, leading Europe to the unforgettable “Miracle at Medinah”—a comeback inspired by the memory of Seve. It’s an honour to welcome José back as Vice Captain. His experience, passion, and deep connection to the Ryder Cup will once again be a guiding force for Team Europe. ” The 47-year-old definitely knows how to pay respect to a legend and someone who has had far more experience on the course than himself.

The comment section was filled with more expressions than words. Irishman, Shane Lowry, also dropped by with a “.” The reaction shows that he loves the fact that Olazabal will be the Vice Captain of Team Europe once again. DP World Tour player and fellow veteran, Nicolas Colsaerts, had far more things to say. He commented, “There isnt a golf player on earth that embodies the values and what @therydercup represents as well as Txema Olazabal #OleOleOle.” Colsaerts was Olazabal’s Captain’s Pick when the latter led Team Europe to a win in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah.
