Mud Balls! At Augusta National, Jordan Spieth had more than one complaint, but the loudest one was definitely: “My iron play killed me the last two days, and to be brutally honest with you, it was primarily mud balls.” Despite the golfer inspiring so much conversation around the situation, the issue didn’t really improve. In fact, Spieth’s argument that “The fact that you’re not supposed to talk about it is a bit frustrating because it is a difference maker” has actually proven correct at the ongoing PGA Championship. Yes, the issue of mud balls has followed the elite roster at the second men’s major, but this time it has affected Scottie Scheffler, not Spieth.
The trouble began with the PGA of America’s decision. As the organizer of the PGA Championship, they announced on Wednesday night that players would have to play the ball where it lands, despite the course receiving about five inches of rain before the event. Now that top players like Scottie Scheffler are on the course, the lack of improvements has become even more apparent. In fact, Scheffler even lost his cool over the situation!
Scottie Scheffler surprised everyone by criticizing the PGA of America for its decision not to allow players to lift, clean, and place their balls during the first round of the PGA Championship at the wet Quail Hollow course. Talking about the same, the Texan said, “I don’t think they understand what it’s like literally working your entire life to learn how to hit a golf ball and control it and hit shots and control distance, and all of a sudden due to a rules decision that is completely taken away from us by chance.“
