Jon Jones has had quite a bit of trouble with firearms, but that has seldom stopped him from trying out new machines. Earlier in 2020, he was arrested on a firearm charge after the police heard a gunshot. Nevertheless, he often drops by the shooting range to try out different guns. And this time, the heavyweight champion had the chance to get his hands on a special machine – an automatic shotgun. However, all that the fans wanted was to watch Jones get his hands on the ‘Tommy’ gun from England – yes we’re talking about the interim heavyweight UFC champ Tom Aspinall.
On 30 March 2025, the UFC heavyweight champion shared a video on his Instagram profile, wherein he handled what seemed like a Genesis Arms’ automatic shotgun with an extended magazine. His shots not only found the target, but also struck at the vital points – head and middle of the chest. Needless to say, the pound-for-pound #2 was quite happy to get his hands on the firearm.
In the caption, the heavyweight champion wrote, “Just made it back to Albuquerque, thought I would bust a few rounds off. Why not, #merica. But thank you to the guys at Calibers for always being such great hosts. Thanks for letting me shoot your shotgun today @hoss_raney .” Being a gun enthusiast, Jones was truly grateful for the experience.
But the same can’t be said for the fighting realm. All that the fight fans wished for was to witness a fight between the heavyweight champion and the interim heavyweight champion in a battle to unify the belts. And watching ‘Bones’ engage in activities other than training seemingly disappointed the fighting community. Let’s take a look at what they commented on Jones’ IG post.
Fight fans remind Jon Jones of his slated battle against Tom Aspinall
The UFC head honcho, Dana White, recently dropped a hint that the fight between Jones and Aspinall might take place in Summer 2025. And for that, the heavyweight champion should have started training. Watching ‘Bones’ indulge in shooting practice seemed to push a few fans to suggest he start training. One of the fans wrote, “How about get started with that fight camp vs aspinall.” Another fan commented, “Yeah buddy. Lets get some training in this month .”
Well, Aspinall has been calling the Albuquerque resident out for quite some time now. After becoming the interim heavyweight champion, Aspinall should have gotten a chance to fight for the title. However, he had to face one of his former rivals, Curtis Blaydes, and defend his position as the interim champion. Meanwhile, Jones seemed to be avoiding Aspinall with all his might. He asked White for ‘f— you’ money, and even claimed that he was ready to vacate his belt if he got to fight Alex Pereira. And now, he was busy with firearms. Weighing in on this, a fan commented, “Bro doing anything but fight Tom .” Another fan added, “Jones is the goat – greatest of avoiding Tom.”
A few fans claimed that it was Jones’ way of training to fight Aspinall. Of course, the comments were filled with sarcasm. One fan wrote, “You going to need those to beat Tom .” Another fan added, “Bro gonna bring that in the ring against aspinal .” One more fan commented, “this is how Bony is training for Tommy .”
