John Elway is reeling from a loss that cuts far deeper than any on the football field. His longtime friend, agent, and business partner Jeff Sperbeck tragically passed away at 62 after a freak golf cart accident in La Quinta, California. The two had just left a post-Stagecoach Festival gathering at the Madison Club when Sperbeck fell from the back of a golf cart reportedly driven by Elway, suffering a traumatic brain injury. Despite Elway’s immediate 911 call and Sperbeck being placed on life support, he succumbed to his injuries four days later .
Elway, visibly shaken, released a heartfelt statement, “I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner, and agent Jeff Sperbeck… Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship, and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.” Their bond spanned over three decades. From Elway’s playing days to co-founding ventures like the 7Cellars winery.
