Jake Paul has strategically built a name for himself in boxing—off of the names of certain retired MMA fighters and boxers. On the other hand, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is enjoying his status as the undisputed unified super middleweight champ, and recently signed an amazing 4 fight deal with the Saudi-owned Riyadh Season recently. The Mexican superstar boxer was all in the conversation to fight ‘El Gallo’ but then came the Saudi deal. This put an end to all talks about Alvarez vs Jake Paul, which did make ‘The Problem Child’ pretty salty.
Paul has already fought Mike Tyson, which was a whole ordeal in itself because of age and other factors. But fighting Canelo Alvarez would give Jake Paul a chance to prove his real merit and show whether he is a legit boxer. However, the Riyadh Season king Turki Alalshikh is not a fan of crossover shenanigans. He and his newly acquired The Ring magazine scoured rumors of a matchup of Paul vs. Alvarez. But comedian and UFC commentator Rogan still expects this fight to happen sometime in the future and showed his excitement to writer, director, and producer Peter Berg in Jor Rogan Experience #2280.
Rogan said, “He [Canelo] signed a multi-fight deal with Canelo for $400 million. I think it’s a five-fight deal for $400 million. I think that’s what is reported, I don’t know if it’s accurate but Terrance Crawford is the first one.” Berg was pretty apprehensive and asked, “Is that happening? Like a proper Canelo fight happening?”
The UFC color commentator replied, “ Yes, it’s happening. So what was going to happen was Canelo had made a deal with Jake Paul to fight Jake Paul.” Upon Berg calling that fight “ridiculous,” Joe Rogan replied, saying that not only was it for a lot of money but he would love to watch it. He said, “Yeah but fun. I watch it. Look, Jake Paul wants to test himself against actual not just a world champion but one of the greatest of all time.”
He also mentioned that Paul would endure more than one round against the mighty Canelo. Rogan said, “I think it would take a few rounds [to put him away]. Jake is a lot bigger so. I don’t think Jake is getting anything lower than 205 pounds. He is a huge guy.”

Alvarez has won titles in four weight classes, including super middleweight, middleweight, light middleweight, and light heavyweight. This would not be a usual crossover fight for Jake Paul because Canelo would be the biggest test of his career. But it makes sense for the super middleweight champion to avoid the Jake Paul fight, not because he’s scared or anything, but because ‘The Problem Child’ is bigger in size, which makes booking the bout slightly problematic. After all, Paul weighed in at 227 lbs when he fought Mike Tyson.
Furthermore, the disparity and weight would likely lead to extended contract negotiations, and a lot of time would be spent deciding which weight class the two would meet at. So it makes sense for the unified super middleweight champion to have his next four fights decided at his weight class, rather than spend all that time trying to bank one big-money fight. But one thing is undeniable—Jake Paul vs. Canelo Alvarez would sell massive PPV numbers, and Joe Rogan and Co. think so.
Jake Paul’s dreams of fighting Canelo get washed over
The former UFC heavyweight and podcaster Brendan Schaub gave the details of the fight on the Fighter and the Kid podcast. Joe Rogan’s friend started the chat with a claim that would leave fans a little confused. “Jake versus Canelo is a bigger fight than [Canelo] and I already forgot the guy’s name, that’s the truth,” Schaub said.
The guy whose name Schaub couldn’t remember is William Scull for the undisputed super middleweight title on May 3rd. But Alvarez is slated to face none other than the first boxer to unify all four world titles in two weight divisions, Terrance Crawford, in September. ‘Bud’ is the first choice for the Canelo fight and fans desperately want to see him clash with the Mexican star.
“I know for a fact being very close to the situation, super close [to the] situation, the fight was done, Jake and Canelo were going down. ‘Cuz he ran into him at Trump’s inauguration, oh, and then Jake was going to go on Rogan and talk about it and announce it. And then [Turki] Alalshikh was like ‘nope.’ That’s how close they were,” the former fighter and podcaster argued.
Jake Paul was confident that he would fight Canelo and was scheduled to go on JRE and announce that fight. However, all his dreams shattered once Alvarez secured a deal with Alalshikh, and Paul might have just been a catalyst for him. Why? Because of what about ‘The Problem Child’.
“Hey guys, don’t pay attention to anything [from] this f–king Youtuber. I fight real fighters… no f–king around with Canelo,” Alvarez said with a menacing smile after the Saudi deal was announced. Paul was furious and accused the Mexican boxer legend of wanting to make more money and called him a “money-hungry squirrel”. For Paul, this fight truly would have meant more than millions of dollars—it would cement his legitimacy as a boxer.
