Car parking jiu-jitsu, phone booth boxing, and countless forms of random MMA are taking place across the world. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that combat sports have been experimented with to the point where people are now confused about what the sport is really about. But wait, that’s not all — Conor McGregor’s BKFC has taken it even further with their latest effort: introducing ice-skating MMA. You heard that right, BKFC has tried to launch BKFC Ice Wars and Joe Rogan couldn’t believe his ears.

Last Wednesday, BKFC announced that it has officially invested a significant amount of money in a new league founded by one of its top executives Charlie Nama. According to their statements, “It pits fighters from around the world against each other on a sheet of ice.” Now, many might think, is it legal to fight on top of harsh skating rings? Well, BKFC emphasized that the sport is, “legal, sanctioned and regulated hockey fights.”

After making bare-knuckle fighting a household name worldwide, David Feldman is now aiming to replicate this success with Ice-Skate MMA. However, according to Joe Rogan, it’s all just a facade. While having a conversation on his ‘Fight Companion,’ the podcaster stated, “You see bare-knuckle fighting is going to have hockey fights. They’re going to have fights with skates on, bare-knuckle boxing with hockey skates on. I don’t know, gimmick. There’s some weird stuff, that’s a gimmick.”

Now, you might be wondering — what exactly is the BKFC Ice War? Simply put, it’s MMA combined with ice skating. According to David Feldman, “We’ve been watching what the team at Ice Wars has been building, and it’s been incredible to see the passionate response they’ve received from audiences. Partnering with them to create BKFC Ice Wars was an easy decision, and we’re excited to take this to the next level together.”

The initial BKFC Ice Wars event will be held on June 14 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Moreover, another follow-up event is planned for June 28 at the River Cree Casino & Resort in Enoch, Alberta, Canada. David Feldman is looking to hold at least six events in 2025 and then expand to as many as 24 events next year. Still confused about the sport? Let us have a closer look at the BKFC-Ice Wars.

What will BKFC ICE-War have to offer?

So, how will these fights unfold? Well, each match will have a maximum of five rounds, three being the minimum. None of these rounds will go beyond ninety seconds in length and there will be at least a minute of break in between these rounds. There will be at least two referees to foresee the fights. In addition to that there will be three judges just like MMA. So, what about the scoring criteria?

Reports suggest that judges will assess fights using three main criteria: striking, effective aggression, and control of the fighting area. Effective striking refers to the damage and impact caused by legal blows. Effective aggression is demonstrated through a determined pursuit of a fight-ending finish. Meanwhile, control of the fighting area involves asserting dominance and dictating the pace and positioning of the fight.

Weight Classes:

Heavyweight (over 200 lbs.)

Cruiserweight (175 to 200 lbs.

Middleweight (150 to 175 lbs.)

Lightweight (under 150 lbs.)
