Joe Rogan Backs Jordan Peterson’s Controversial Study Involving Male & Female Psychology

5 min read

Joe Rogan doesn’t shy away from tough conversations, and his most recent podcast episode is a glimpse of that. During The Joe Rogan Experience #2297, Rogan discussed the work of famous psychologist Jordan Peterson with guests Francis Forster and Konstantin Kisin. He remembered a dinner with Peterson and evolutionary psychologist David Buss, during which the talk drifted to male versus female psychology—a topic that, according to Rogan, has become “super problematic.” But why does he think it is a controversial topic now?

Well, the UFC commentator stated that, while society has made progress in honoring trans identities by allowing people to choose their pronouns, discussing biological and psychological sex differences has become taboo. “With respect to trans people—use whatever pronoun you like, change your name—but can we? Are we allowed to talk about the inherent differences between males and females that we’ve observed? Or are we supposed to ignore data, statistics, and reality?” he said, noting that Peterson’s research focuses on observable qualities and behavioral patterns. According to Joe Rogan, the fact that such research is ignored or called offensive is a worrying reflection of the times. “Imagine your field of study all of a sudden becomes problematic—like, let’s not look into that,” he said, emphasizing the criticism specialists like Peterson frequently face.

Jordan Peterson has spent a significant amount of time studying personality psychology, particularly the “Big Five” personality qualities of openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. According to his findings, women generally outperform men in terms of agreeableness and neuroticism. Agreeableness means being kind and polite, but neuroticism implies being more emotionally sensitive and easily stressed. What actually sparks controversy is something known as the “gender equality paradox.” It suggests that in countries where men and women are more equal, these personality differences actually strengthen rather than lessen. In other words, when people have more freedom, their innate tendencies emerge more strongly, contrary to popular belief.

This, of course, caused heated discussions. Critics claim Peterson’s research promotes old gender stereotypes, while advocates regard it as an honest examination of human nature. The JRE host, for his part, appears to believe that censoring such debates is more harmful than beneficial. Whether one agrees with Peterson’s conclusions or not, JOE Rogan’s position is clear: disregarding scientific data in favor of ideological narratives is a slippery slope that compromises the simple foundation of debate. However, it is worth noting that this wasn’t the first time that the UFC commentator came out in support of the controversial psychologist.

Joe Rogan defends Jordan Peterson’s aid as the psychologist tears up

Joe Rogan is not simply defending Jordan Peterson’s beliefs; he is also advocating for the man himself. Peterson has become well-known for his emotional moments, which frequently result in tears during interviews and debates about faith, responsibility, and society challenges. Some people mock these incidents, calling them theatrical or exaggerated. However, on a JRE episode from March 2024, the JRE host rejected the idea, claiming that the psychologist’s emotions are genuine and deeply felt. “That’s because he really feels that way,” Rogan explained, adding that when taken into context, Jordan Peterson’s reactions make perfect sense.

However, not everyone on the podcast agreed. Ari Shaffir said that fame has a way of altering things, suggesting that being in the spotlight may be influencing Peterson’s work. The JRE host pushed back, claiming that Peterson is not a member of any system but rather an outsider contesting popular ideas. The true question, the UFC commentator noted, is whether Peterson is truly fighting “the system” or simply expressing his opinions without filter. In any case, Joe Rogan made it clear that Peterson’s emotional outbursts are not an act but rather a reflection of how strongly he believes what he is saying.

Given their long history of conversations, it’s not surprising that Joe Rogan continues to support Peterson. The psychologist has previously praised the RE host, saying he became one of the most important media voices by remaining loyal to himself. Rogan, too, appears to admire Peterson’s willingness to absorb criticism for his beliefs. Whether or not people agree with Peterson, Rogan sees his emotional moments as evidence that he is more than simply talking—he is truly invested in the principles that have made him such an unpopular figure. But what do you think? Do you support Jordan Peterson’s research? Let us know in the comments.
