Add one more golf show to your 2025 watchlist. And expect more of Jim Nantz on your screen. The legendary broadcaster, who started his golf commentary journey at the 1986 Masters and is now a household name among fans, will grace a new comedy show on Apple TV+ with his voice. Stick, starring Owen Wilson in the lead, brings a bunch of PGA Tour pros and Nantz into the reel world.

In the comedy series, Wilson plays the role of a washed-out golfer whose career was derailed after a shock meltdown. You know, smashing clubs, throwing them away, and eventually, leaving the greens for good. Twenty years have passed since. He has been fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store. Life for him is as bad as it gets. Oh, and he is also going through a divorce procedure with his wife. He sees this 17-year-old golf phenom, albeit a very troubled one, played by Peter Dager (Santi). He wants to mentor and coach this young kid to global glory. One step at a time. First being the US Amateur.

In the trailer, it is seen that Santi makes it to a professional event—probably the US Open—where he shakes hands with Max Homa. And that’s where Jim Nantz, who has been very vocal against AimPoint, makes an iconic appearance. “Hello, friends, Jim Nantz with Trevor Immelman. What a tournament we have in store.

This is, of course, not the first time Nantz made an appearance in a TV show or a movie. He appeared as himself in the 1996 golf movie, Tin Cup, and then appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother and Arli$$. And Nantz won’t be the only golf entity to grace the screen.

Who else is starring alongside Jim Nantz?

Apple has released only one trailer of the TV series so far. As per the official website, the first three episodes will be live on Wednesday, June 4, the week of the RBC Canadian Open. Since then, each week, one episode will be released till July 23, 2025, the week after the Open Championship.

Clearly, the creators wanted to leverage the golf major window between June and July to draw more people into it. The trailer, released just the week before the PGA Championship, also indicates that strategy. On Instagram, the trailer has generated 15K likes in the last 13 hours.

In addition to Wilson and Nantz, the cast also includes Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer, and Timothy Olyphant. Whereas Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark are known to have joined the crew. Moreover, a horde of golf influencers are present as well: Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke, and Garrett Clark, as well as Skratch’s Dan Rapaport.

This comes when the golf world is going gaga over Happy Gilmore 2. The Adam Sandler-starrer sequel to the cult classic will be released on July 25.
