Can Gang Green make a comeback with Justin Fields this season? The Jets shocked the NFL world by signing Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. What are their odds of having a shot at the Super Bowl now? Well, for a team coming off a 5-12 season, even coming up with double-digit wins could mean progress. So, do the Jets have the roster to pull off wins, or are they still lacking something? Well, after solving the QB problem, HC Aaron Glenn needs to build a team that could support the new QB.
It’s simply because the team is still missing some pieces of the puzzle! And these are some critical pieces, mind you. We did not say it – SNY reporter Connor Hughes did.
As the entire NFL has chimed in, discussing the Jets after the Fields news, there’s one question on everyone’s mind. And that is what other roster changes Aaron Glenn has to figure out.
“This team still has holes. I think that’s important to remember about the Jets,” said Connor. Something that Glenn and GM Darren Mougey now have to fix. Because, of course, just bringing in a new HC, GM, and QB won’t do. They must recruit more and build team chemistry, ready to pump up for the new season.
“They have a lot more talent than they’ve had in their prior rebuilds with Mike Maccagnan, Joe Douglas, and John Idzik, but they still have some holes that they do need to fill,” said Hughes.
“They still have some holes that they really do need to fill”

And honestly, he is not incorrect. The team must find a WR they can pair with Garrett Wilson. The 24-year-old is excited to have QB Justin Fields, his former teammate from Ohio State. But Fields won’t be the one backing him up on the gridiron. He needs another reliable WR. Someone to receive those passes and run like Flash! After Davante Adams left, the void for a strong WR is there to fill.
Basically, they must get a 4.56-second 40-meter dash athlete to replace Adams.
Likewise, the Gang Green has to find a replacement for right tackle Morgan Moses, who has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Patriots. So, there’s a lot to be done on the O-line. And it’s not just the O-line; the defensive line also needs to be sorted out after LB Haason Reddick packed his bags to leave New York.
Aaron Glenn’s to-do list grows
Last year, Philly traded Haason Reddick to the Jets under very complicated terms and conditions. The condition was that Woody Johnson‘s team would give Philly a second-round pick if Haason played at least 67.5 percent of the snaps. If the LB failed to do so, the Jets would provide a third-round pick to the Eagles.
Later in August, the contract tussle between the LB and the Jets became problematic. Reddick missed training camp and a few regular-season games, demanding a trade from the team.
The Jets’ general manager at the time, Joe Douglas, did not allow the DE to seek a trade. They fined Reddick per the CBA for failing to report to the team. After initially agreeing to a trade in October, Haason and the Jets reworked the contract. But there’s no way he stays one more season with the team.
On Monday, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported that Tampa Bay and Reddick have agreed on a one-year contract worth $14 million. It’s good for both the LB and his new team because his shenanigans were growing thin on the Jets. The team already had enough controversy last season, and they wouldn’t want to start another year with more drama.
So now, Aaron Glenn has one more task to cross off his to-do list. He better giddy up!
