Jerry Jones Confirms 8-Figure Decision to Make NFL History as Dak Prescott Issues Contract Advice for Micah Parsons

4 min read

When will Micah Parsons get his deal done? It’s been more than a month that people have been asking that question. And yet the contract talks remain where they were: stagnant. The draft is now less than two weeks away, and the pressure for a deal is mounting. Micah has been doing his part, like showing up at the first practice of voluntary OTAs. The edge rusher had the option to skip it, but he did not. Parsons has been doing what Jerry Jones wanted him to do: being a leader for the Dallas Cowboys. So now, maybe it’s high time for Jones to do his part.

Both Jerry Jones and Cowboys COO Stephen Jones have publicly discussed Micah Parsons’ contract situation. But so far, no concrete updates have come from either of them. Recently, Stephen Jones, too, on 105.3 The FAN shared his stance on the Parsons contract situation. His statements did not bring any clarity about Micah’s contract, as he said, Where the rub comes in is, we’re trying to not only keep guys like Dak (Prescott) and CeeDee (Lamb and Micah. But we’re also trying to put a team around them that can be and can compete and win championships.” However, he hinted at the team trying to strike a balance between retaining top players and also building a roster that can compete for championships.

Stephen Jones on @1053thefan if Micah Parsons reporting to the offseason program helps contract talks:

“Everything matters. Yeah, the leadership is certainly a big part of it.”

At the NFL League Meetings, Jerry Jones sounded like he and Parsons were on the same page about the contract talks. Most of the issues, we are in agreement on. We discussed it all,” he said. But then the 82-year-old also added that he feels no urgency to sign a deal with the edge rusher. Some say using the basis that the earlier you get something done the cheaper, well the earlier you get something done, a lot of times the more mistakes you make. I’d rather pay more and get it right than pay less and screw it up.” A typical Jerry Jones statement.

Well, if Jones is willing to pay more, then Parsons is probably going to become the highest-paid non-QB, surpassing Cincy‘s Ja’Marr Chase and his $40.25M average annual contract. This means Jerry would be paying Parsons somewhere in eight figures (50 million). Just like Parsons and his agent, David Mulugheta, have been demanding.

So while the front office works on finding that balance, QB Dak Prescott has some advice of his own for Micah Parsons when it comes to handling contract talks.

Dak’s two cents on Micah’s millions

Dak Prescott has a handful of experience in dealing with contract talks with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Dallas delaying players’ extensions is not a new thing. Every year, some player takes a turn to go through this hiatus. This year, it’s Micah’s turn. So, QB Dak has some words of advice for the edge rusher as he deals with the elongated negotiations.

Prescott himself has been through these hiatus talks a couple of times. After his rookie contract expired in 2019, Dallas put a franchise tag on him for a year. Then the next year, they signed an extension with him. Last year, too, Jerry Jones and the front office dragged it till September to sign an extension with Prescott. So, naturally, the QB knows the taste of it.

Speaking at the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala, the 31-year-old advised Micah to stay positive through these talks. “I don’t have the full answer for it, or I think all of mine would’ve been done a lot earlier than they were. For him, just stay positive. Understand and make sure that his team knows what he wants and what he believes,” Dak said, advising the edge rusher.

Parsons has been trying to stay positive. His presence at the team’s voluntary workouts speaks volumes, especially considering that in previous off-seasons, he’d often opt to train independently. But now, it’s up to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office to seal the deal. Will they get it done, or will Parsons continue to wait for his well-deserved payday?
