Jazz Chisholm Jr. Joins Judge in Strong Message to Yankees After Manager’s Stark Admission

5 min read

For the New York Yankees, it’s like the ghost of last October never really left! Their World Series collapse against LA was supposed to be a lesson learned. The sloppy defense, the leaky bullpen, and the head-scratching decisions that ended with them losing in such a gut-wrenching finish. Yet, right now in the thick of summer, while they should be on a redemption arc, they are on a tailspin.

At one point, though, the Bronx Bombers stood tall with a 45-32 record and an AL East lead. But nothing is guaranteed in baseball, and now they are 48-40. They lost eight out of their last eleven games and watched even the Blue Jays storm past them in the standings. Also, the fans had to watch the Yankees’ sad loss to the Mets in Saturday’s Subway Series. All punctuated by Jeff McNeil’s go-ahead homer off Luke Weaver.

And manager Aaron Boone is not sugarcoating the situation. He knows how bad this is and said, “It’s been a terrible week…. You’ve got to be able to deal with it… As corny as it sounds, these are the moments that build character within a team.” He is showing up in the hope of turning things around. And this seems to be the narrative in the entire clubhouse, too.

Jazz Chisholm, Jr. to @BobKlap: “I’ve played with the Marlins. I’ve seen bad teams go through rough times, and believe me, this isn’t even close to what I’ve been through in the past. I still feel like we’re going to be fine.”

Jazz Chisholm, too, isn’t panicking with the downward spiral right now. He said, “I’ve played with the Marlins. I’ve seen bad teams go through rough times, and believe me, this isn’t even close to what I’ve been through in the past. I still feel like we’re going to be fine.” This is a refreshing take, at least when you account for the fact that just a few days prior, Jazz was all up in arms about how he wants to play second base. But how, at the end of the day, is it what the team chooses!

Not just Jazz, even Aaron Judge has not lost hope. He struck a similar tone of resolve, saying, “Every good team goes through a couple of bumps in the road. But we can’t let it falter from what our ultimate goal is.” And well, for now, it seems the attitude in the clubhouse is bruised, not broken. And it is understandable, isn’t it? It’s a 162-game stretch, and some slumps can happen. The road ahead is tough for sure; they have two teams to cruise up to the top. But Boone seems to hint at adjustments and additions, “you need to change or where you need to go out and explore for things.” And the deadline is coming close, and they might look at Miami again.

Could the New York Yankees swing another Miami Marlins deal?

The New York Yankees, it turns out, can go on knocking on the doors of the Miami Marlins again! But it’s important to know that they have been a team that’s heating up over the last few weeks. However, staying put on the trade deadline may not be on their cards. Just last year, the Yankees pulled a big deadline deal with the Fish, landing Jazz Chisholm in exchange for Agustin Ramirez and a couple of prospects. Now they might be eyeing another Miami infielder—Otto Lopez.

Adam Weinrib from Yanks Go Yard floated around Lopez’s name as a potential trade target. And honestly, it makes sense. The 26-year-old has been quietly putting together a great season. He is slashing. 249/.321/.383 with nine homers and 44 RBIs across 299 plate appearances. Plus, he has one important benefit: a slick glove that works both at second base and as a shortstop.

What’s even better is that Lopez has been trending up. In June itself, he hit .301 with a .365 OBP and drove in 22 runs. This is the mid-season spark that the New York Yankees need. Right now, in a move, DJ LeMahieu is manning second, but he isn’t an everyday answer now. Lopez could slide right in and bolster the infield. But the catch is that he won’t be cheap. Plus, Lopez is under team control through 2029, and he plays two premium positions. Those players don’t grow on trees, and the Marlins know this. Now, for the Yankees, the AL East is a battleground, and they need to make a move. What do you think- will Yanks will spend big?
