The Kansas City Chiefs walked into Super Bowl LIX chasing history. A three-peat – something no team had ever pulled off. But it all unraveled fast. Sacks. Drops. Picks. It was a mess. The Philadelphia Eagles came out swinging. By halftime, they were up 24-0. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs just couldn’t find a rhythm. Nevertheless, fans thought the second half would be different. Maybe KC would fight back. But the Eagles only turned up the heat. By the end of the third quarter, it was 34-0, the fifth most significant lead in Super Bowl history. Philly fans were living it up. And Brandon Graham? Ah, the man was soaking in every second, having his moment out there.
No question, the Eagles owned that night, dominated every snap. With time winding down, the players even tossed water on head coach Nick Sirianni – celebrating the shutdown before the final whistle. But even before that, Brandon Graham stood on the sideline, heart full, watching the story unfold. He knew they had it. And you could see it written all over his face.
Sharing the same feeling on Up & Adams show on Wednesday, Brandon Graham said, “I was laughing. We were on the sideline trying to hold it in too.” Ouch, that stings hard for Patrick Mahomes and the entire Chiefs community.
Continuing to talk about his emotions on the field, Jalen Hurts‘ teammate Brandon Graham expressed, “We felt good going into this game because we had a great week of practice. The belief that we were gonna win that game, we [had] that. Because of how we showed it every day, and when it started happening, that’s why we tried to stay low and level.” He even praised his quarterback, calling him no. 1, “as he won against the GOAT (Patrick Mahomes).”
Brandon Graham is the last man standing from a different era. Drafted in 2010, the 37-year-old also witnessed the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory. The 2018 game in which the Birds defeated Tom Brady’s Patriots 41-33. And now in 2025, he lifted another Lombardi Trophy. This was a big moment for him, as he finally broke with laughter. However, now that Graham ostensibly retired from the league on March 18, the defensive end explained how VP Howie Roseman convinced him to walk away.
Howie Roseman is the man behind Brandon Graham’s retirement decision?
Brandon Graham didn’t walk into this offseason thinking it was the end. Retirement was never on his mind. But then he sat down with GM Howie Roseman. And that conversation changed everything. It wasn’t forced. No pressure. Just one of those real talks.
Sharing the same on the New Heights podcast, on February 9, he said, “I ain’t even gonna fight it. So when I walk in, he’s like, ‘BG, what you wanna do?’ I say, ‘Man, what you want me to do? Cause you know my heart.’ He was like, ‘BG, this is such a fairy tale ending, man. I can’t let you, I can’t let you, man. Like, you gotta go out on top.’ And when he said ‘fairy tale,’ I was like, ‘All right, Lord, I’m done, I’m done.’ I didn’t even fight it after that.”
And just like that, it felt right to Brandon Graham to exit the league. Fifteen years in one team, the DE walked away with an illustrious career – 359 solo tackles, 128 assists, 76.5 sacks, and 7 fumble recoveries. So, yeah, he didn’t leave the game, he just walked out of it with his head high on top. But you never know, the veteran might return as he already mentioned that he has retired 90% – “the 10(%) is how much I wanna continue training the way I’m training. Training to train for a game is different, but I haven’t really changed that yet.” The doors are still open for him for a new chapter after a fairy-tale ending!
