Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas are all back in action. A week before the 2025 PGA Championship, they will face new obstacles at The Philadelphia Cricket Club (Wissahickon Course). This week, they go head to head in the Truist Championship. It’s the sixth Signature event of the season and the one that leads to the second major of 2025.
Defending champion Rory McIlroy has won the title four times in his career. But all his wins came on the course that is hosting the PGA Championship this year, Quail Hollow. He will still be the favorite going into the event as he has been in incredible form all year long. However, there would be some golfers who would be eager to know if there is a cut in this event, as most of them would want to get in as much practice as possible before their major. So let’s ease their stress and take a look at the format of the 2025 Truist Championship.
Does the 2025 Truist Championship have a cut?
This time last year, Rory McIlroy was at the top of the leaderboard in what was then called the Wells Fargo Championship. He won the tournament with a 5 stroke lead against Xander Schauffele. But on the other side of the table, the likes of Will Zalatoris, Matthieu Pavon, and Eric Cole were struggling to keep up with the field. They finished dead last in the limited field Signature event. However, neither of them missed the action as the tournament didn’t have a cut.
Have things changed after the Truist Championship lost its sponsor in 2025? It’s worth noting that the field of this year is a bit larger. Instead of the 68 head count that the Wells Fargo Championship had in 2024, this season, the field has increased to 72 players. Despite the increased competition, the format of the tournament has remained the same. Yes, there is no cut in the 2025 Truist Championship, as confirmed by Sports Illustrated. All of the 72 golfers will play all four rounds of the tournament.

Having said that, who is going to be a part of the field in this year’s edition of the Signature event? Let’s take a look at some of the big names participating in the 2025 Truist Championship.
Rory McIlroy faces a tough battle for his title defence
Rory McIlroy will definitely be coming in hot for his title defence. Having already won three tournaments this season, he will be eager to bag a fourth and retain the Truist Championship. However, he will face a very tough battle against a stacked field in Philadelphia. The biggest threat he might face might be from the world No. 3, Xander Schauffele. Looking to get his form back for his own title defence in the 2025 PGA Championship, Schauffele will be eager to win the Signature event. The 9-time PGA Tour winner has only had one top-10 finish all year long. A win days before his trip to Quail Hollow will be ideal for Schauffele’s form and confidence.
Other than that, Collin Morikawa has also been desperate for a win in 2025. He hasn’t found any success for more than a year and a half now. Morikawa came close to breaking the curse twice this year at The Sentry and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. But on both occasions, he couldn’t push through for the win in the final round. The Truist Championship presents the perfect opportunity for the 28-year-old to get back to winning ways. Especially if he wants to challenge for his second PGA Championship in 9 days.
