It’s been nearly two weeks since the New York Knicks lost their best player to injury. Yes, around 13 days since Jalen Brunson suffered an ankle injury in the Lakers game. And the Knicks haven’t fared particularly well without their star guard, having gone 3-2 without Brunson. All we can say is that they have gotten by. But for how long?
The Knicks are set to take on the San Antonio Spurs next. And even though Victor Wembanyama is out, they are still tough customers with the likes of De’Aaron Fox and Chris Paul among their ranks. So let’s see what the injury report has to say about Brunson’s status ahead of the Spurs game.
New York Knicks Injury Report: Is Jalen Brunson going to play against the Spurs?
ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth had a fresh update on Brunson’s status. She revealed that Jalen had briefly trained as he continued his recovery from the ankle injury. However, it seems the medical boot is yet to come off. “I’m told he’s still in a boot and he’s done some very light shooting,” revealed Hubbarth in her report during the Worldwide Leader’s coverage of the Knicks-Heat game.
“The Knicks are focused on keeping swelling down and then increasing mobility as his recovery continues. They know that they need him right for the playoffs,” she added. And it seems she’s right on this as the NBA injury report lists Jalen Brunson as OUT for the Spurs game.
Sadly for the Knicks, there are more absentees than just Jalen Brunson.

Ariel Hukporti is also OUT as he recovers from meniscus surgery. He will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks, give or take. Another player on the same boat is Kevin McCullar Jr. who’ll be playing in the G-League because of his two-way contract. Similarly, Pacôme Dadiet, who’s on assignment with the Westchester Knicks is QUESTIONABLE to appear in tonight’s game.
Lastly, Mitchell Robinson is also QUESTIONABLE for tonight’s game as he recovers from his ankle surgery. He was on the court against the Heat, so it’s likely he’ll also play tonight against the Spurs. Robinson played 24 minutes in that game, putting up 10 points and getting 9 boards. He’ll want to build on that momentum as the playoffs approach us.
Now that was it for the Knicks’ absentees heading into the Spurs game. Now let’s see what lineup we may see tonight.
New York Knicks vs San Antonio Spurs – predicted starting lineup and depth chart
We don’t see Tom Thibodeau changing too much from the lineup that beat the Miami Heat 116-95. After all, the Knicks were very dominant in that game. Particularly in the third quarter, putting 41 past the Heat. Here’s what the team may look like as they take on the Spurs:

The Knicks are in a good position in the Eastern Conference. With a record that’s only bested by the Cavs and the reigning champs, the Celtics, the Knicks look poised to make a deep Playoff run this season. And letting Jalen Brunson recover fully is a good idea on their part. But first, they need to come out of this trip to Texas with a W!
