Is Boston Bruins Eliminated From NHL Playoffs 2025 After 10-Game Losing Streak?

3 min read

The season only keeps getting worse for the Boston Bruins, doesn’t it? Yesterday, they suffered yet another defeat against the Canadiens, which was their 10th consecutive loss. Moreover, the Bruins are also in danger of equaling the franchise’s unwanted 100-year-old record of 11 consecutive losses, which they set during their inaugural 1924-25 season. Amid a string of defeats, there is also a question mark about their chances of qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After their recent defeat, the Bruins sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Over the past few games, their chances of progressing through have hung by a thin thread. However, with the defeat against the Canadiens yesterday, the Bruins are now realistically out of the playoff race.

Following a poor show this season, their only hope of qualifying for the next round was through the wild-card. The Bruins are bottom-placed in their Conference in that aspect, too. They trail the Canadiens by 12 points, who occupy the last wild-card spot. Even if the Bruins win all the remaining six games in regulation time, they would only be able to tie the Canadiens’ points tally and overtake the other teams in the fray.

Although mathematically the Bruins are still in the fray to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it is highly unlikely that they could get there, with not much time left in the season.

Nonetheless, the Bruins would hope to overcome their losing streak and finish off the season on a positive note in the remaining games.

Additionally, they also have a chance to build on the momentum for the next season, even if their playoff chances this year have all but disappeared. Further, it was also the first time since 1924-25 that the Bruins had lost 10 consecutive games. Amid this, Bruins’ interim coach, Joe Sacco, revealed how the team can come back.

Boston Bruins interim coach has a key advice for the team

Despite a string of defeats, the Bruins have shown flashes of brilliance during the recent games. However, they have failed to sustain it throughout the game, resulting in their 10-game losing streak. As a result, their interim coach, Sacco, wants the team to put on a consistent show throughout the game.

During the post-game interview after yesterday’s loss, Sacco revealed, “It’s going to take 60 minutes of consistent hockey right now. And I think we have moments where we play well, but not long enough, during the course of a game. We have to be able to sustain more a 60-minute effort and I think that’s what it’s going to take. And we have to just understand that we have to pull out of this together. It’s not about one person or two persons trying to pull us out of it, we have to do it together as a team, but more focused on the process, how we play, and when you do that usually the score will take care of that.”

Amid the danger of equaling the worst losing streak in the team’s history, the Bruins face the Hurricanes later this week. Can they end their 10-game losing streak against the Hurricanes? Let us know your views in the comments below.
