Ian Garry Sends Strong Message to Dana White & Co. as Son Makes a Special Request to Belal Muhammad in Wholesome Interview

4 min read

“I’m not gonna shoot one takedown, and I’m gonna show him the meaning of Canelo Hands.” Belal Muhammad raised a lot of eyebrows when he made this unexpected promise with the fight against Jack Della Maddalena in mind. Let’s be clear, Muhammad is a dominant wrestler, while Della Maddalena loves to strike. And despite ditching his strongest weapon, ‘Remember The Name’ still received support. But by whom, you ask? It’s none other than Ian Machado Garry. ‘The Future’ has been eyeing the welterweight title for a long while now, and after becoming the backup for the UFC 315 main event, he and his son, Leo, decided to poke Muhammad a bit. Of course, it was linked to his unexpected promise of not using wrestling!

Just 4 days before the showdown between Belal Muhammad and JDM at UFC 315, Ian Garry’s son, Leo, claimed the fighting realm’s hearts as he interviewed the welterweight champion. Of course, it was a prompted interview with the Irishman backing his son up for the interview. And that’s when Garry asked little Leo whether he wanted to watch Muhammad wrestle, or outstrike Della Maddalena. But the only word that the 2-year-old uttered was “Bang!” So, is that a special request?

Well, Garry prompted Leo to ask, “Belal, can you win on the feet?” And when the Palestinian welterweight champion answered in affirmation, little Leo got all excited and exclaimed, “He can!” Needless to say, ‘Remember The Name’ believed that it was the best interview he had so far. But even though Machado Garry won the hearts of the fighting community with his son interviewing Muhammad, he had a plan set to go up against the welterweight champion.

No doubt, the #6 welterweight contender has the desire to wear the welterweight gold. And for that, he needs to claim a win against the champion (Garry believes Muhammad will be successful in his upcoming title defense). So when a representative from FullSend MMA asked the Irish fighter if he’d accept a fight other than the title shot, he took a strong stance and refused. Garry said, “No! The biggest fight you can make after this event, when Belal wins, is Belal Muhammad vs. Ian Machado Garry. And let’s do it in your backyard. Let’s do it in Chicago.”

But do you know why Ian Garry believes that it’d be Muhammad coming out as the victor of UFC 315 main event? Let’s revisit the post-fight press conference for UFC Kansas City, where ‘The Future’ made his stance clear about UFC 315.

Why does Ian Garry support Belal Muhammad instead of Jack Della Maddalena for UFC 315?

After defeating Carlos Prates at UFC Kansas City, Garry announced that he was the backup fighter for Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena. Of course, these words came as a surprise to the entire fighting community, including the welterweight champion and his opponent. But soon, in the post-fight press conference, he claimed that he favored ‘Remember The Name’ over JDM in the upcoming fight. But why did he choose someone that most fans view as a boring fighter?

Garry said, “Nothing to do with style but just to do with what he’s done in the division. He is the champion, he’s beaten former champions, he’s on a however many fight winning streak. I feel like Jack has not done the same workload. And I don’t want any question marks on my career. I’ve told you this, so I want to beat the best guys in the world and Jack is up there in that level, but I just think Belal has done more to warrant that status.”

Nevertheless, Garry low-key wished for Della Maddalena to miss weight. For that, he even planned to gift a packet of M&M’s to the Australian, with the subtle hope that he eats the whole thing and misses weight. After all, this would get him out of the title picture and introduce ‘The Future’ as the replacement for JDM at UFC 315. Slick tactics, right?

What are your thoughts on the matchup between ‘Remember The Name’ and ‘The Future’? Do you think Muhammad can successfully defend his belt against JDM at UFC 315? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
