After the highs and lows of audience expectations, the league stage is now over. The top four teams have now stepped into the final stages of the $9 million tournament. Despite the top-rooted players and the mastermind behind the tech-infused league being knocked out in the league stage, there is still a great roster that is definitely not a miss for the fans.
After the exciting 15 regular-season matches, four teams, namely Los Angeles Golf Club, The Bay Golf Club, Atlanta Drive Golf Club, and New York Golf Club, have made their way to the semifinals. The first three teams have a record of 4-1, while the fourth has a 2-3 record with an overtime loss. The excitement for fans, with top teams competing, is undeniable. Here are all the details to witness the live action from the top teams.
Schedule of the semifinals
Different from the regular PGA Tour events, the TGL has started the weekday event at a unique time. Now that has caused a drop in viewership in multiple matches. However, with the semifinals, the timing has been strategically kept close to the prime time. The first match is scheduled for March 17, Monday. For the first matchup, the leader on the table, i.e., Los Angeles GC, will compete against the fourth-positioned New York GC.
The next day, March 18 will host the second semi-final of the first season. The match will be played between second and third-placed teams, i.e., The Bay GC and Atlanta Drive GC. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN 2 and ESPN+ at 7 PM ET.
Interestingly, away from the schedule, it is the player roster that grabs the attention of the fans, as top names with great finishes recently at the PGA Tour event enhance the viewership of the events.
Player roster for the semifinals
Away from the schedule, the presence of the top names who have already proved their appearance at the events is what adds another layer of excitement. For the first match, Xander Schauffele (NYGC) will be playing against Collin Morikawa (LAGC). Schauffele has won two majors in 2024, and is the World No.3, while on the other hand, Morikawa has already secured two runner-up finishes in the PGA Tour schedule. Along with the two, Rickie Fowler (NYGC) will compete against Tommy Fleetwood (LAGC), while Cameron Young (NYGC) will take on Sahith Theegala (LAGC). After the singles matches, the team will compete in triples.
For the second match, the fans will witness Justin Thomas from Atlanta Drive GC against Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club. Thomas was placed second at the American Express, while Lowry had the same place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach. Along with them, Ludvig Aberg (TBGC), winner of the Genesis Invitational, will take on Patrick Cantlay (ADGC), and Wyndham Clark’s (TBGC) matchup is scheduled against Billy Horschel (ADGC).
With top names already showcasing their top performance, it will be an interesting opportunity to witness who will take charge in the semifinal to get a step closer to the $9 million prize. Who do you think will win the semifinals? Share your picks with us in the comments section below.
