How Much Is Mike Tyson Getting Paid for Analyst Role at Ryan Garcia’s Times Square Fight?

4 min read

Ryan Garcia is all prepared to return to the ring after a year, and he’ll do this by throwing punches at Rolando Rolly Romero in the Fatal Fury event tomorrow, happening in Times Square, New York. Ever since the Devin Haney bout, Garcia’s image has been a bit off in the boxing community, with everything from him testing positive for the PED (performance-enhancing drug) Ostarine, to the New York State Athletic Commission suspending him and stripping the boxer off $1.1 million from his purse for that fight, Garcia was in a dark place. But not anymore.

Finally, he’s free to fight; in fact, he is on the main card out of the three high-profile bouts in the event. With the dream fight on the undercard, the event was already a hype among boxing fans as they added one more reason to the list. The retired boxing icon, Mike Tyson, announced just two days before the grand showdown that he’ll be attending the bout too. Albeit not for chilling on a Friday night, dropping an X post saying, Can’t wait! I’ll be there in Times Square as guest analyst.

But how much will he get to share his years of experience in the sport?

Mike Tyson’s estimated salary as a guest analyst at Garcia vs. Romero

As a guest analyst during the event, Tyson would be offering live insights and commentary on the match, which will be broadcast exclusively on DAZN pay-per-view. Not just that, he’ll be giving pre- and post-fight analysis as well.

According to Celebrity Talent, Mike Iron Tyson usually charges $150k to $200k as a speaking fee. Assuming that it’s been five months since his Jake Paul loss, the return to the boxing landscape in person would be at the higher end of this segment.

But then again, since no sources have officially disclosed the amount, with Tyson himself dropping just as little as that comment on his X handle, it is hard to guess his earnings for tomorrow. That said, it is still likely that he’ll get paid lavishly, since Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, with the Ring Magazine promoting the event, in collaboration with the Japanese SNK Corporation, who created the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves game.

This event is part of the Fatal Fury card, and the Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. bout that happened just days ago was also part of the game’s promotional events.

Not to mention that it’s the first time that Times Square has turned into a boxing venue. Moreover, only a small crowd of 100-300 people will be attending the event, as Eddie Hearn told Boxing News 24. So, only VIPs, celebrities, media personnel, and guests will be attending this event, making it even more high-profile. All of that shows how Tyson will be compensated for his presence graciously. Also, he’ll be accompanied by another returning commentator.

Jim Lampley returns at the Garcia vs. Romero card.

Jim Lampley, now 76, had been commentating on HBO‘s World Championship Boxing for 30 years, but when the channel dropped their show in 2018, he too had to forget speaking on the sport. Now, years later, he is going to return to ringside commentary, and it will be in this very same event. That is true when everyone says Alalshikh’s entry into the boxing landscape has been for the better, including Mike Tyson, because the Saudis are bringing Lampley back to boxing.

It’s like everything that the sport was missing, and what the fans needed to consume big events just like the old times, has reappeared on the scene, promising the highest levels of entertainment and involvement. By no chance is the Times Square event going to be like just another passing day in boxing.

With Garcia’s return, Mike Tyson’s new role, an exceptional venue in NYC, and the beloved Lampley reappearing on the ringside, nothing about the May 2nd fights is “casual.” Are you going to watch it? Let us know in the comments below.
