‘He’s Not Winning Anything’: Analyst Laughs Off at Jordan Spieth Amid Growing PGA Championship Hype

4 min read

Jordan Spieth has all the support he needs to win the PGA Championship, or so one would think. With only a PGA Championship victory needed to complete his career Grand Slam, Spieth is the center of attention this week at Quail Hollow. “For me, if I could only win one tournament for the rest of my life, I’d pick this one for that reason,” he said. Spieth feels like he’s trending in the right direction, with a string of top-20 finishes in April, including a T14 at the Masters, and a solo fourth-place finish earlier this month at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. But if you believe the golfer has a good chance of winning the season’s second major, these golf analysts have some good points that may change your views.

Speaking on the latest YouTube episode of Dan on Golf, golf analyst Dan Rapaport and guest Alan Shipnuck shared their thoughts on Jordan Spieth’s chances of winning the PGA Championship. When asked about Spieth’s prospects for winning the career Grand Slam within the next seven years, Rapaport bluntly replied, “I’m going to say never… He’s not winning anything.” Shipnuck agreed, stating, “The bottom line is he’s won two tournaments in the last seven years. He’s just not winning anything, forget about majors.”

Well, it is true, Spieth’s last win was in 2022 at the RBC Heritage, and before that, he won the Valero Texas Open in 2021. Rapaport added, “Jordan is popping up and down… I want him to win it, it’ll be history for the game, but I’m going to say it doesn’t happen.” Shipnuck elaborated on Spieth’s struggles, mentioning “injuries lately, swing problems, metaphysical issues… He’s just not a regular threat to win golf tournaments, period.”

Well, it is true. Spieth’s journey to the Grand Slam has been marred by roadblocks, particularly after undergoing surgery on his left wrist. While he’s still experiencing some lingering effects, including morning swelling, Spieth is feeling more comfortable on the course. “When I’m golfing, I haven’t really been thinking about it the last couple of months,” he said, but the effects still linger, including morning stiffness and swelling.

He mentioned that his left hand feels twice the size of his right for about half an hour every morning, and that’s the reason they concluded that betting on “never” would be the safer option, but Spieth is not ready to give up just yet!

Jordan Spieth says ‘watching Rory win’ was ‘inspiring’

Jordan Spieth is feeling motivated as he chases his career Grand Slam at the PGA Championship. With Rory McIlroy’s recent achievement at the Masters, Spieth is inspired and focused on claiming his own spot among golf’s elite. “Obviously, watching Rory win after giving it a try for a number of years was inspiring,” he said. Spieth has recorded three top-10 finishes in 11 events this season and feels Quail Hollow’s layout suits his game. A win here would put him alongside legendary golfers like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

This week marks Spieth’s ninth attempt at completing the career Grand Slam. He’s confident in his knowledge of Quail Hollow and believes he has a good chance to win. With Phil Mickelson also one win away from the feat, Spieth is part of an exclusive group of golfers vying for a coveted place in history. So, do you think he can achieve the feat this year?
